Dormono Sulla Collina
Morgan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Che di febbre si lasciò morire
Dov'è Herman bruciato in miniera.
Lontano, e dall'Inghilterra
Mangiate in strada nelle ore sbagliate.
The song Dormono Sulla Collina by Morgan is a poignant reflection on the fleeting nature of life, and the inevitability of death. Morgan reflects on various individuals who have passed away, wondering where each one has gone, and what has become of them. The song starts with a lamentation for Elmer, who died from fever. Morgan goes on to reflect on other individuals, such as Herman, Bert, Tom, Charley, Ella, Kate, Maggie, Edith, and Lizzie, all of whom have died in different circumstances. Some died in accidents or violence, while others passed away due to illness or misfortune.
Through these reflections, Morgan makes a larger statement about mortality and the human condition. Despite our differences in life, we all ultimately end up in the same place: buried in the earth, sleeping on a hill. The song is both melancholic and pensive, inviting the listener to consider their own mortality and that of their loved ones. Despite the heavy subject matter, however, Morgan's lyrics are tender and empathetic, filled with a deep sense of humanity and compassion for those who have passed on.
Overall, Dormono Sulla Collina is a stirring testament to the beauty and fragility of life, and the preciousness of each moment we have on this earth.
