From the 1960s to the 1980s, Diamond was one of the more successful pop music performers, scoring a number of hits. As critic William Ruhlmann writes, "as of 2001, he claimed worldwide record sales of 115 million copies, and as of 2002 he was ranked third, behind only Elton John and Barbra Streisand, on the list of the most successful adult contemporary artists in the history of the Billboard chart."[1] As of May 2005 he has sold 120 million records worldwide, including 48 million records in the U.S.[2]
Though his record sales declined somewhat after the 1980s, Diamond continues to tour successfully, and maintains a very loyal following. Diamond's songs have been recorded by a vast array of performers from many different musical genres.
Diamond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984, and then in 2000 was given its Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the early part of 2011.
In 2008 Neil Diamond scored his first ever Billboard number one album with "Home Before Dark", the album also became his first studio album to get to number one in the UK.

You think there's no other way
And when there's time left to play
You're thinkin' about her all the time
You keep it all to yourself
You trust in nobody else
And the pressure just builds
It can make you go crazy
I'm falling in love, again
Falling
I'm falling asleep
Callin' your name once again, babe
One more time, yeah
The world is down on your back
You know the things that you lack
It really hard that's a fact
When you want to do the right thing
You got your doubts that you can
Sometimes you don't understand
What brings the best in a man
Is it passion or power or
Falling
I'm falling in love again
Falling
I'm falling asleep
Callin' your name once again, babe
One more time, babe
Fall into bed every night
It seems you do nothing right
You'd like to catch the next flight
But you got your responsibilities
She's feeling unsatisfied
You feeling empty inside
Like you've been took for a ride
And there's no one at the steering wheel
Falling
I'm falling in love again
Falling
I'm falling asleep, callin' your name
And I'm falling
I'm falling in love again
Falling
I'm falling asleep, callin' your name
And I'm falling
I'm falling in love again
The lyrics of Neil Diamond's "Falling" explore the complexities of life and love. The song describes a man who is struggling to balance his obligations and his desire for love. The first stanza describes a man who goes to work every day and is constantly thinking about his love interest. However, he keeps these feelings to himself and trusts no one else. The pressure of these conflicting emotions cause him to feel as though he is going crazy.
The second stanza acknowledges the difficulties of doing the right thing, as the singer grapples with his doubts and insecurities. He wonders if the passion or the power in a man brings out the best in him. The final stanza talks about the frustration of feeling unsatisfied and empty inside. The singer feels like he has been taken for a ride and nobody is at the steering wheel.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of confusion, longing, and desperation. The singer is falling in love again and again, but he cannot seem to find a way to make it work. The pressures of life and his responsibilities weigh heavily on him, and he feels powerless to change his circumstances.
