E coloquei o meu sonho
Num pedestal bem alto
Não devia e por isso me condeno
Sendo do morro e moreno
Amar a deusa do asfalto
Um dia ela casou com alguém
E dizem que bem me quer
E eu triste boêmio da rua
Casei-me também com a lua
Que ainda é a minha mulher
É cantando que carrego a minha cruz
Abraçado ao amigo violão
E a noite de luar já não tem luz
Quem me abraça é a negra solidão
É, é, é, eeé cantando que afasto do coração
Esta mágoa que ficou daquele amor
Se não fosse o amigo violão
Eu morria de saudade e de dor
The lyrics to Nelson Gonçalves's "A Deusa Do Amor" tell the story of a man who once had a bright future filled with dreams and aspirations. He put his dreams on a high pedestal but ultimately condemns himself for doing so. Being from the slums and being dark-skinned, he fell in love with the "goddess of the asphalt" - a woman from the upper class with light skin. Unfortunately, she ended up marrying someone from her own class. Despite this, she allegedly still has feelings for him. The singer finds solace in his music, playing the guitar and singing his sorrows away.
The song touches on themes of love, social class, and music as a form of coping mechanism. The first verse speaks to the cultural and social divide between the rich and the poor, highlighting the singer's inability to bridge that gap. The second verse brings the focus onto the singer's journey and how he finds happiness in unrequited love and music. He compares himself to the moon, symbolizing the beauty and mystery of the night.
Overall, "A Deusa Do Amor" is a poignant and melancholic song that speaks to the struggles of marginalized communities and the power of music to heal.

Até me arrepio quando ele canta:
"E eu, triste boêmio da rua,
Casei-me também, com a Lua,
Que ainda é minha mulher."
Ou então também quando ele canta:
"É cantando que carrego a minha cruz,
Abraçado ao amigo violão.
E a noite de luar já não tem luz.
Quem me abraça é a negra solidão."
