Taikatalvi
Nightwish Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lapsistain rakkain tää näyttämö on
Mis kuutamo kujillaan kulkee
Taipunut havu, kesä hoivassa sen
Valkomeren niin aavan
Joka aavekuun siivin
Saapuu mut kotiin noutamaan

Päällä talvisen maan hetki kuin ikuisuus
Mi pienen kissan jaloin luokseni hiipii
Tääl tarinain lähteellä asua saan mis
Viulu valtavan kaihon

Ikisäveltään maalaa
Laulullaan herättää maan

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Nightwish's song Taikatalvi talks about how the stage upon which the singer appears is the dearest thing to them, more than anything else in the world. The moonlight is described as moving along the streets, casting shadows upon the trees that are bent under the weight of summer. The vast white ocean represents a spirit that arrives on its ghostly wings, coming to take the singer home.

In the second verse, the scene shifts to a wintry landscape that seems to last forever, while the singer is visited by a small cat. The story continues at a source where tales originate, and where the singer is allowed to live. In this place, the violin plays a melody of great sorrow, painting a picture of a life forever trapped in this otherworldly place. The singer sings a song that awakens the earth, bringing it back to life.

Overall, Taikatalvi is a song that speaks of otherworldly experiences and emotions, portraying what appears to be a fairytale-like journey. The lyrics are full of mystical imagery that creates an air of mystery and magic. Through this song, the band brings the listener into a winter wonderland where dreams come true, but also where the past is ever-present.

English lyrics:

Out of all my children this stage's my dearest one, where the moonlight walks in its own alleyways.
A bent twig, summer in its care.
The white sea wide open,
which on wings of a ghostmoon,
comes to bring me home.

In a wintry land a moment's like an eternity,
on kitten paws it sneaks up to me.
Here at the source of my story I get to live,
where the violin of hopeless longing
paints its eternal tune,
waking up the earth with its song.

Lapistain rakkain tää näyttämö on
Saapuu mut kotiin noutamaan

Viulu valtavan kaihon
Où un violon se fait l'écho
Ikisäveltään maalaa
De la mélodie éternelle du désir immense
Laulullaan herättää maan
Et éveille la terre avec sa chanson

This stage is the dearest of my children
Where moonlight moves through alleys
A bent twig, a summer in its care
White vast open sea
On the wings of a phantom moon
Comes to take me home

In winterland a moment is an eternity
Creeps to me on kitten paws
I get to live here where the story begins
Where a violin echoes the eternal melody of immense longing
Waking up the earth with its song

English translate:
The child's most beloved to stage is
Miss moonlight is passing through
Curled smell, summer care it
I'm so sorry
Every time I wake up
It comes home to pick up
On a winter's earth's moment like eternity
What a little cat with my feet is sinking
Here on tales source I can live where
A violin with a huge catenary
He is painting his own obsession
With her song she wakes up the country

I'm gonna cry, I can't believe Marko left Nightwish

@poultrypickins9572

After reading the post,I totally understand why. Being a creative person is never all rainbows and unicorns. It sucks but it is true, the urge to move on and explore new ideas is overwhelming. Not doing so can have disasterous mental health effects.

@mc23243

@@poultrypickins9572 I understand why he left too and he has every right to prioritize his mental health. It does not make it less sad though

@zigak.7800

@@mc23243 And who knows myby when this corona is over he will come back, it has happend before(in other bands ) so keep hopes high :D

In english translation thats just good lyrics, in finnish its poetry

@channarosenblatt8197

That's a really good interpretation with "the moon's own alleyways at the source of the story, waking up the earth". You captured the poetry.

@LewisBowels

I've sung this song to my dog when she got scared of thunderstorms. She would hide in my bedroom and I would gently cuddle up with her on my bed while petting her softly and singing this to her so she wouldn't be so scared. Feeling her heartbeat go down was such a relief and she was finally able to go to sleep as the storm went on.
