Break my back
Close your eyes
Call the demon
We’ve got nothing
Close my eyes
Birds keep singing
For the workers all night
We’ve got nothing
Hear that whistle
We’ve got nothing
Call the demon now
All in my hand
I’m a dirty man
Birds keep singing
To the workers all night
Birds keep singing to me
For the workers all night long
Close my eyes
And break my back
Close my eyes
Break my back
Close my eyes
I’m burning
Close my eyes
I’m breaking my back alone
Birds keeps singing all night long
Birds keeps singing to me now
I’ve got a hole in my hand
I’ve got it all day
Workers now
Workers’ death
Workers dead
We’ve got nothing
The lyrics of No Money Kids' song "Birds" convey a sense of despair and hopelessness experienced by workers who toil endlessly yet remain stuck in their lives with nothing to show for their labor. The singer of the song seems to have given up all hope and is begging for release, even calling upon the demon to take him away. The lyrics are repetitive and cyclical, emphasizing the monotony of the worker's life - day in and day out, they perform the same tasks, all the while hearing the birds sing to them through the night.
The line "all in my hand, I'm a dirty man" may be an allusion to the dirt and grime that workers accumulate on their hands from manual labor, as well as the figurative dirt they carry on their conscience from being forced to do menial tasks for little pay. The final lines "workers now, workers' death, workers dead, we've got nothing" seem to suggest that the worker's cycle of toil, exhaustion, and eventual death is a never-ending cycle with no way out.
Overall, the song "Birds" speaks to the plight of the working class, who often go unrecognized and unappreciated for the difficult and necessary work that they do. The lyrics are haunting and thought-provoking, encouraging listeners to reflect on the impact of capitalism and wage labor on individual lives.
