Thousand Eyes
Of Monsters and Men Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Unto this storm
Unto this storm
Unto this storm
And wait
I can't control
Withering wonders
Flowers that lose their shape
I lie awake
And watch it all
It feels like thousand eyes
I lie awake
And watch it all
It feels like thousand eyes

I'll be the calm
I will be quiet
Stripped to the bone
I wait
No, I'll be a stone
I'll be the hunter
Tower that casts a shade

I lie awake
And watch it all
It feels like thousand eyes
I lie awake
And watch it all
It feels like thousand eyes
I lie awake
And watch it all
It feels like thousand eyes

I am the storm
I am the storm

I am the storm
So wait

Overall Meaning

“Thousand Eyes” by Of Monsters and Men is a song that explores the idea of being watched and observed by an unknown entity. The song opens with the singer addressing an impending storm, acknowledging its power and inevitability. The repetition of “unto this storm” emphasizes the impending sense of danger and dread. The lyrics then address the feeling of being watched and observed, using the metaphor of “thousand eyes” to represent this feeling. The singer feels helpless and powerless, unable to control the situation or escape the watchful gaze.

As the song progresses, the singer takes back control by becoming the “calm” and “quiet” in the midst of the storm. They become a “hunter” and a “tower” – a source of strength and protection. The repetition of “I lie awake and watch it all, it feels like thousand eyes” showcases the struggle of being both vulnerable and powerful. The singer becomes the storm, fully embracing its power and danger, yet still feeling the weight of being watched and observed.

Overall, “Thousand Eyes” is a haunting and introspective song that explores complex themes of power and vulnerability, control and helplessness, and fear and strength.

Every dark film & tv show trailer is gonna abuse this song lol

Good music need to be popular. I can't understand those people who complain about rap being popular and good songs not, but when a good song becomes popular, they start complaining about it being too mainstream now and it used to be better before.

@manchesterunitedno7

+looneyshadow1 Jessica Jones called dibs first.

@ashN2f

+looneyshadow1 ima agree with ya...though i feel the movie/movies gotta have to deal with a story base (premises) similar to jessica jones (not saying that the movie/series gotta have a female lead other than being dark and gritty, it could be a male lead/villain too but its gotta have the same kinda tension as i presume this show will have..be good to see marvel go bold and take up a project with such high dark and gritty tones..alas! unless they cut the tone to half or even less ima be crazy rude to 'em..)..i mean this song pretty much sums up the entire season/seasons (if the show succeeds) coz of the tension building music and at the end "I'm the STORM, so WAIT"
and having movie/movies of that tone might actually be a problem in this ridiculous pg-13 era
