Always Running Home
Paloalto Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My head and the tong-tie fall
I can only grow is this the fear of a love life in the arm
I'm walking under water and maybe I'll come offering
When it all starts
You'll see right through these colors
So how can you run
How can you run
From here
How can you run
Fly over top**
How can you run like hell
I'm scratching on my whole life
Never to break through the skin
My body's always cold and I'm lost in a complex machine
Wondering if the world stops only that took me in
When it all starts
You'll see right through these colors
So how can you run
Live on this road
How can you run
From here
How can you run
Fly over top**
How can you run like hell
Run like hell
How can you run
Live on this road
How can you run
Fly over top**
How can you run
Live on this road
How can you run
How can you never let go
But you're always always always always always running home
The lyrics to Paloalto's "Always Running Home" encompass themes of fear, discomfort, love, and running away. The opening lines express the feeling of discomfort, as the singer's head and tongue feel tied, and they wonder if their fear of love is holding them back from growth. The imagery of walking under water and eventually surfacing may represent the fear of drowning in one's emotions and the eventual relief that comes with confronting them.
The chorus poses the question of how one can run from their problems or from their life when they are ultimately always connected to it. The line "fly over top" may imply the desire to escape or rise above the situation, but ultimately, the idea of running away is futile. The repetition of the phrase "How can you run?" emphasizes the impossibility of escaping oneself and one's struggles.
The second verse describes the feeling of being stuck and not making progress, both physically ("scratching on my whole life") and emotionally ("lost in a complex machine"). The idea of being taken in by the world and wondering if it will stop may represent feeling out of control and powerless. The repeated line "when it all starts, you'll see right through these colors" may suggest that once the true nature of the situation is revealed, it will become clear that running away was not a viable option.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of unease and the desire to escape from difficult emotions or situations, but ultimately highlight the futility of running away.
