2AM
Papadosio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've been looking at the bottom of your glass
The bar is closing gotta put down the flask
You've said no so many times you don't know how to say yes
It's time to call the cab buddy
Cause it's 2am

You're too invested to admit that you're wrong
The corporate lobbyist are writing your song
The storm is coming but you're singing along
It's the end of the final hour

I can't believe it but you're everyone's ride
Drinking and driving global suicide
You keep on pretending that the earth's not alive

You're drunk go home buddy
Cause it's 2am

Overall Meaning

In Papadosio's song "2AM," the lyrics begin with someone seemingly drowning their sorrows at a bar, as the bar closing time approaches. The person in the song has repeatedly refused something, and now finds it difficult to say yes to anything. At this point, it's time for the person to call a cab as it's 2 am. The next verse talks about someone who is too attached to being right, and as a result, they let lobbyists dictate their ideals. The storm is coming, but this person still sings along to the lobbyistā€™s song, and it's the end of the final hour. The final part of the song directly addresses someone who is drunk and refusing to acknowledge the potential consequences of their actions. This includes anyone that could end up driving under the influence and disregarding the state of the world we live in. This person is urged to go home due to the dangers of drinking and driving, and the fact that it's 2 AM.

The song addresses themes of realizing that one has been making bad decisions for so long that it becomes hard to make any correct choices in life. It touches on the idea that some people cling so tightly to their values and beliefs, that they are willing to ignore the impending danger that may come with staying true to those ideas. These lyrics are a warning to the audience that they should be wary of falling into the same trap.
