Paloma
Pedro Infante Lyrics

Paloma querida me puse a brindar
Y al sentirme un poquito tomado
Pensando en tus labios
Me dio por cantar
Me sentí superior a cualquiera
Pedro Infante's song, Paloma, is a beautiful and heartfelt expression of love towards someone who has brought light and happiness into the singer's once dark and aimless life. The lyrics begin with the singer toasting to the day when the beloved person entered their life, feeling slightly intoxicated and inspired to sing about the beauty of her lips. The singer's feelings of infatuation are so strong he believes he can pluck a handful of stars from the sky for her, but upon realizing his inability to do so, he becomes frustrated and wants to cry.
The singer continues and expresses a willingness to give his life to this person, even though he's not sure if his love will be returned. He describes himself as a lost pilgrim until he found his way with the help of his beloved's divine eyes. Since then, his love for her has grown in strength, as he compares his heart to a dove cot, always open and ready for the one he loves. In essence, the lyrics capture the essence of unconditional love, one that will give everything, no matter the cost.

On the day you entered my life,
Paloma querida me puse a brindar
I raised a toast to my beloved dove,
Y al sentirme un poquito tomado
And while feeling a bit tipsy,
Pensando en tus labios
Thinking of your lips,
Me dio por cantar
I felt the urge to sing.
Me sentí superior a cualquiera
I felt superior to everyone else,
And I wanted to bring down a handful of stars for you,
Y al mirar que ninguna alcanzaba
But when I saw that I couldn't reach any of them,
Me dio tanta rabia que quise llorar
I felt so angry that I wanted to cry.
Yo no se lo que valga mi vida
I don't know what my life is worth,
Pero yo te la vengo a entregar
But I come to give it to you,
Yo no se si tu amor la reciba
I don't know if your love will accept it,
Pero yo te la vengo a dejar
But I come to leave it with you.
Me encontraste en un negro camino
You found me on a dark path,
Como un peregrino sin rumbo ni fe
Like a pilgrim without direction or faith,
Y la luz de tus ojos divinos
And the light of your divine eyes,
Cambiaron mi suerte por dicha y placer
Changed my luck to joy and pleasure.
Desde entonces yo siento quererte
Since then, I feel love for you,
With all the strength my soul can give,
Desde entonces Paloma querida
Since then, my beloved dove,
Mi pecho he cambiado por un palomar
I've transformed my chest into a dovecote.
