Among the leaves so green
Here we coma a-wandering
So fair to be seen
Love and joy come to you
And to you glad Christmas too
And God bless you and send you
And God send you a Happy New Year
We are not daily beggars
That go from door to door
But we are friendly neighbors
Whom you have seen before
Love and joy come to you
And to you glad Christmas too
And God bless you and send you
A Happy New Year
And God send you a Happy New Year
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
Good tidings to you
Wherever you are
Good tidings for Christmas
And a Happy New Year
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
The lyrics of Perry Comoβs βHere We Come A-Caroling/We Wish You a Merry Christmasβ convey the message of spreading joy and love during the holiday season. The verses talk about carolers wandering around among the green leaves, spreading the message of Christmas, while wishing people a happy new year full of blessings from God. The song is not about begging but about spreading happiness as friendly neighbors. The joyous and lively melody adds to the celebratory tone of the song.
The opening line βHere we come a-carolingβ sets the tone of the song, which symbolizes the tradition of caroling during the Christmas season. It was a tradition that began in medieval times when singers, known as βwaits,β would wander the streets and sing to entertain people. The song refers to the fact that carolers would often be found outside, where the leaves were still green, despite it being winter.
The lyrics highlight the importance of community and friendship during the holiday season, as the carolers are described as βfriendly neighbors whom you have seen before.β This emphasizes the idea that Christmas is a time to come together and celebrate.
Overall, the lyrics are an expression of love, joy, and goodwill, which are the hallmark values of Christmas.
