A shoulder there for me to cry on
And the hours alone that I'm without you
All I ever do is think about you
No one knows that you're so understanding
Even though my love is so demanding
Every time you look at me
That no other love could be
I couldn't live without your love
Now, I know you're really mine
I gotta have you all the time
Didn't like you much when I first met you
But somehow, I couldn't quite forget you
Said you didn't want a friend or lover
That your life was happy with another
But as time went by, my love grew stronger
Knew that I just couldn't wait any longer
For I couldn't let you go
And I had to tell you so
That I loved you, then you'd know
I couldn't live without your love
Now, I know you're really mine
I gotta have you all the time
Now, the tears are gone and I'm not cryin'
When you say you love me, you're not lyin'
So, when people want to stare
I know I don't really care
Just as long as you are there
I couldn't live without your love
Now, I know you're really mine
I gotta have you all the time
I couldn't live without your love
Now, I know you're really mine
I gotta have you all the time
The lyrics of Petula Clark's "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" express gratitude and devotion to a significant other. The opening lines reveal the singer's dependence on and trust in their lover, describing them as the only person they rely on and the one they turn to for comfort. The chorus repeats the idea that the singer cannot live without their lover, emphasizing the depth of their affection.
The second verse takes a closer look at the history between the singer and their lover, revealing that they initially had reservations about each other. Despite this, the singer's love grew stronger and they couldn't bear to live without their lover by their side. The final verse shows the emotional growth the singer has experienced through their relationship, expressing confidence and self-assurance in the face of others' judgment.

Now, the tears are gone and I'm not cryin'
Now that we are together, I no longer cry or feel sad
When you say you love me, you're not lyin'
I trust that your declaration of love is genuine
So, when people want to stare

I didn’t realize she’d recorded in the USA this early. This is a few years before she became very popular in America.

While Pet sings this beautifully, it is an incredibly reserved version of Kay Thompson's exuberant signature song. Pity she cut the lyric, "I love a violin, I get hilarious, 'cause my middle name is Stradivarius."

i don't think this was the last year of the 1950s. early 60s music and fashion was not much different to the late 50s.

Looks different to how she was in the 60s yes but this was 1960-the last year of the 50s. Its typical of British TV at the time-she wears this great dress and you hardly even see it
John Savard
1960 was the first year of the 1960s, even if it was the last year of the 196th decade - just as the year 2000 was the last year of the 20th century, but the first year of the 2000s. The starting point depends on which convention you use.
