His first recorded performance was on Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz album Kings of Crunk in 2002, after which he released his debut album, M.I.A.M.I., in 2004. He has since released 2006's El Mariel, 2007's The Boatlift and 2009's Rebelution, which debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200.
Pitbull's breakout hit was the Lil Jon collabo "Culo" produced by Lil Jon & The Diaz Brothers. In addition, Pitbull has also released several mixtapes, the most recent being Unleashed Volume 6, which are mostly composed of freestyles and remixes of popular rap music. Both thematically and musically, the 25-year-old is seen as a modern-day equivalent of earlier Miami rappers such as the 2 Live Crew and Afro-Rican. It was in fact former 2 Live Crew leader Luther Campbell who gave the up and coming rapper his first chance to shine. Apart from Crunk, his album shows clear influences from both Miami bass and freestyle. In addition to his musical work, Pitbull has also been featured in The Source expressing his stance on freedom fighter revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and he was also part of their Unsigned Hype Section. He contributed to an essay published in the New York Post that criticized freedom fighter revolutionary Che Guevara's iconization in clothing and other areas. In video games, Pitbull's hit single "Dammit Man" produced by Jim Jonsin is featured in Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, and he also plays himself in the upcoming video game based on the 1980's Scarface. His super hit "Toma" is featured in WWE Day of Reckoning 2. Also, an album cut, "Back Up" produced by The Diaz Brothers, is featured on the EA game Fight Night: Round 2. In late 2005 he re-released "M.I.A.M.I." as a separate charting entry, whilst his "Welcome to the 305" mixtape was released. In January 2006 he guest-starred in UPN's South Beach. Also in 2006 he recorded "Nuestro Himno" in collaboration with Wyclef Jean, Carlos Ponce, and Olga Tañón.
The first single from El Mariel has been released, entitled "Bojangles". The album, slated for an October 31st release, will feature guest artists Lil Jon, Ken-Y of Rakim y Ken-Y, Rick Ross, Bun B and the Ying Yang Twins. El Mariel will lead up to Pitbull's 2007 release of an all-Spanish album entitled "Armando", which will have an Afro-Cuban feel[1]

Get It Started

Only ball I drop, New Year's Times Square
The world is mine, sixth sense, I see the seventh sense
Now baby, let's get started for life
Every time I look into your eyes
I feel like I could stare in them for a lifetime
We can get started for life (tonight)
We can get started for life (tonight)
For life (tonight) for life (tonight)
We can get started
Big news, Pitbull, Tom Cruise, Mumbai
A lit up their December night like the fourth of July, vanilla sky
Thriller in Manila, knocking them out like Pacquiao
No Ali, no Frasier, but for now it's off to Malaysia
Two passports, three cities, two countries, one day
Now that's worldwide, if you think it's a game, let's play, dale
Every time I look into your eyes
I feel like I could stare in them for a lifetime
We can get started for life (tonight)
For life (tonight) for life (tonight)
We can get started for life (tonight)
For life (tonight) for life (tonight)
We can get started
(You know it feels right)
I am what they thought I'd never become
I believe and became it
Now I'm here to claim it
I hustle anything you name it, name it
I went from eviction to food stamps
To baggin work, wet & damp
To a passport flooded with stamps
Now it's Volì everywhere I land
Two passports, three cities, two countries, one day
Now that's worldwide, if you think it's a game, let's play, dale
Cause if it feels right (you know it feels right)
We shouldn't waste anymore time
Let's get it started (let's get it started)
Don't think about it (let's get it started)
You know I'm gonna make it alright, alright (let's go)
Cause if it feels right
You know I made up my mind
Let's get it started (let's get it started)
Don't think about it (let's get it started)
I know that we can make it alight, alright
Every time I look into your eyes
I feel like I could stare in them for a lifetime
We can get started for life (tonight)
For life (tonight) for life (tonight)
We can get started for life (tonight)
For life (tonight) for life (tonight)
We can get started
(Don't start what you can't finish)
(You know it feels right, let's go, you know it feels right)
The lyrics of Pitbull’s popular song "Get It Started" have many interpretations; some say that it is a celebration of the artist's global success, while others say it is an ode to universal love. The song begins with an apology to other rappers for the success, acknowledging that it may not be fair. Then the song seems to change its focus to the singer's love interest with lines like "Every time I look into your eyes, I feel like I could stare in them for a lifetime", indicating that the singer is looking to start a long-term relationship. The lyrics then describe how the singer has traveled the world and has achieved success and now wants to get started with someone for the rest of his life.
The chorus line of "We can get started for life" emphasizes the desire to embark on a new journey or adventure which could be falling in love, starting a business or even starting a new chapter in life, essentially anything that signifies a fresh start. The song contains several other interesting bits of imagery, e.g. mentioning Tom Cruise, making a reference to the thriller in Manila and the mention of the passports, having gone to two countries in one day. Essentially, the song can be seen as a celebration of success while acknowledging the hardships of reaching there along with a desire for a long-term relationship.
