The first verse of the "Carnaval Llanero" song by Quinteto Contrapunto talks about a kiss that the singer received from an older woman named Doña Rosa. The kiss left the singer "enmabitao," meaning that he became infatuated with her. However, he wonders why kisses from older women taste like "cacho quemao," or burnt pieces of meat. He figures out that when one is in a bad mood, everything seems to go wrong, and one hopes to be funny but ends up being a "desgraciao," or a wrong-doer.
The second verse continues with the singer's experiences on the plains. He remembers eating roasted corn, which led to a toothache and the loss of some of his cattle. Additionally, he ate a snake the night before and fish in the morning, all because of the pain in his teeth. Because of all of this misfortune, the singer gets the nickname "el amolao," which means "the unlucky one."
In the final verse, the singer describes the few things that would make him happy. He desires a drink of water, a hammock to relax in, a clear sky with a view of the stars, a breeze, and, ideally, a woman to enjoy these simple pleasures with. Lastly, he reveals that, with this lifestyle, he won't have any significant problems in life, such as insomnia or baldness.
