Diante da indecisão no cenário da música nacional, após a irrupção do movimento tropicalista, o QUINTETO VIOLADO apresentava uma proposta fundamentada nos elementos musicais da cultura regional, através de trabalhos de pesquisa e da própria vivência de cada um dos seus integrantes, originários da região Nordeste do Brasil.

Conseguindo extrair das mais simples manifestações populares a sua essência rítmica e melódica, o Grupo criou uma nova concepção musical, cujo traço fundamental é a interação entre o erudito e o popular, sem desfiguração, reafirmando a idéia de que toda arte é sempre a universalização do popular. Com excepcional criatividade e talento, o QUINTETO VIOLADO, em seu disco de estréia, talvez nem sequer imaginasse que, muito mais que uma nova roupagem orquestradora, estava produzindo a semente de uma mudança no modo de sentir e expressar a música brasileira.

Já são 35 anos de trabalho, onde se intercalam pesquisas, espetáculos, discos, festivais e excursões internacionais. A saga do QUINTETO VIOLADO percorrendo o Brasil inspirado numa filosofia mambembe, desde o sul, com toda a sua influência nativista, até a Amazônia, onde os ritmos e sons da natureza falam mais alto, está hoje registrada em livro, vídeo e mais de 47 discos lançados no Brasil e no exterior.

Além da memória, fixada em mais de um milhão de quilômetros percorridos em estradas brasileiras, conquistando e despertando o interesse das mais variadas platéias, que representam a motivação maior para sua caminhada. Hoje, há um amadurecimento cultural e profissional do grupo, que se mantém dinâmico em seu trabalho e com a consciência crítica de que não se acomodou ou fez concessões aos modismos da indústria cultural.
