Days Grow Long
R. Winchester Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Been drowning for too long my lungs full
Don't know how to maneuver this obstacle
It's impossible
How I feel this way
Where the options go? Uh

Been drowning for too long my lungs full
Don't know how to maneuver this obstacle
It's impossible

It's impossible
It's impossible
It's impossible
It's impossible

Yeah I feel like been getting old
New times I don't recognize it anymore
Got a feeling I envisioned the future
And came back to drop timeless classics, you heard that?
As a matter fact
I rode the backs of many hoes many trains to the city
Back and forth on the path he bid me, uh
How can he be so much with me and others so little?
I'm calm to the bones
But at times they get brittle, uh
I maintain the mind state to have faith in a storm
I call mom, let her know that I'm calmer than a muh
But she keep asking if I'm sure
Yeah I'm sure

Been drowning for too long my lungs full
Don't know how to maneuver this obstacle
It's impossible
How I feel this way
Where the options go? Uh

Been drowning for too long my lungs full
Don't know how to maneuver this obstacle
It's impossible

It's impossible
It's impossible
It's impossible
It's impossible

Yeah I'm freer than I've ever been
So I why feel weighed down
It ain't a chain but the boulder around my neck feel like an elephant
I made the mistake of embellishing
I'm hesitant to show my skills too early
Cause I gotta set the precedent
I'm right there at the precipice
I'm floating a bit more higher than the Jetsons did
If fate came in a button, best believe I'm pressing it
I wanna be chillin in a palace it's my destiny
I gotta be sippin' from the chalice, yeah you know the recipe
Eternal youth, forbidden fruit just got reversed
The coupe remaining blue forever
Sip the juice don't get disheveled
Yeah, I'm living proof the devil
Doesn't reach you
When you producing heaven
My brethren lose their breath
From seven well beyond eleven but ain't sweatin'
Ain't working nine to fives no more
Climb aboard this plane
We take a trip to tropics
Change the Topic
Life's a journey meant to discover Zen not cop it, lame
Open the cabernet, pour some out for me
Feel the vibes while I drown out the pain, aye

Been drowning for too long my lungs full
Don't know how to maneuver this obstacle
It's impossible oh

Been drowning for too long my lungs full
Don't know how to maneuver this obstacle
It's impossible
How I feel this way
Where my options go? Uh

It's impossible
It's impossible
It's impossible

It's impossible
It's possible
Anything's possible

Maybe not today but one day we'll meet again, my friend
Maybe not today but one day we'll meet again, my friend

Every night I dream that we were friends still
Know what I did deep down but my heart genuine
Didn't mean to let you down
Cause I'm climbing up a mountain of my own
No excuse for hurting you
I was wrong for thinking that another person understood what's wrong, but
I'd never get in between
Of someone who for years ignored me
And another who was my best friend
My first friend since first grade
I'm tearing writing these words
For once could give a fuck about getting paid or getting laid
All I care about, all I think about is getting you back
Once again I'm sorry, but all the things I gotta say on this track
I couldn't say to your face cause you're planning attacks
I never lost a friend before
Not in this way, it's eating away at my soul
I couldn't be more sorry
But I have my dignity too
I didn't do what you think I did, you misunderstood
Sometimes I struggle with what I wanna do and what I should but
When someone claims they get you
It makes you wanna be friends with them more
But that's the extent, uh
See you at events, uh
But don't speak, lemme vent, my intent was always pure
Yeah I'm really sure
Think what you want, I've done my part
Apologized for things I didn't do
We really been boys from the start
So how did things get so dark? Uh
You know you probably waking up with resent in your eyes
Yeah, I'm waking up with regret in my mind
Not just for you, but for all the hours that I spent
Chasing things I'd never get but I'm fine
Know you fine too
Maybe we're better off without each other
No that can't be true
Don't give a fuck about the reception, nah I give a fuck about you, uh
So what do you say we set it aside? Yeah
Talk it all through, uh
If by end you still wanna be done that's up to you, but
Poison runs deep, the toxic energy flowing through me
I feel it everywhere I go, I don't know how it's affecting me, but
Maybe you do, cause
You feel the same way, if not, more in pain of the things you see in me
After all the time we spent together, did you even know me?
To accuse me of these things did a number on me, yeah
I'm done feeding into that bullshit, twisting the words that I say
But I'll hold out hope you'll come around one day
Acknowledge that we've both made mistakes
But till then I gotta skate
Maybe not tomorrow or today

Maybe not today but one day we'll meet again, my friend
Maybe not today but one day we'll meet again, my friend

Maybe not today but one day we'll meet again
Maybe not today but one day we'll meet again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to R. Winchester's song "Days Grow Long" seem to explore themes of struggle, inner conflict, and the complexities of relationships. The repeated line "Been drowning for too long my lungs full, Don't know how to maneuver this obstacle, It's impossible" suggests a feeling of being overwhelmed and unable to find a way out of a difficult situation. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration, as the singer questions where their options have gone and expresses their feelings of being stuck and unable to move forward.

The second verse delves into the artist's personal journey and growth, as they reflect on getting older and feeling disconnected from the present. They express a desire to create timeless music and leave a lasting impact. The artist also speaks about the ups and downs of their career, maintaining a calm and faith in the face of challenges, and the support of their mother.

In the third verse, the artist explores the dichotomy of feeling free yet weighed down at the same time. They mention hesitation to showcase their skills too early, as they want to set a precedent. They express a desire for success and a life of luxury, but also acknowledge the importance of finding inner peace and not getting caught up in materialistic pursuits. The lyrics touch on themes of destiny, eternal youth, and the pursuit of heaven instead of earthly possessions. The artist also addresses their relationship with a friend who has been hurt by their actions, expressing apologies and regrets for the misunderstandings and struggles.

Overall, "Days Grow Long" seems to be a reflective and introspective song, capturing the complex emotions of feeling stuck, seeking personal growth, and navigating relationships.

This video is bringing up memories! Wayback in the day I was a locomotive engineer for southern pacific, and all the extra board would catch the Tillamook hauler that ran from Portland to Tillamook! absolutely stunning and beautiful. Going over the Cascade mountain range to Tillamook! Sadly, that track has been shut down! Also, after a 20 year career as a top, producing real estate broker in Las Vegas, Nevada, moved to Port Orford, Oregon! 20 years as a locomotive engineer, 20 years as a real estate broker in Las Vegas

This really was a once in a lifetime journey Russ. I loved the cheese factory, the old fort and the big bridge. Thank you for sharing the journey. Safe travels.

Beautiful, scenic drive. Love the small towns, lighthouses and history. You have really found some interesting things to do, and see. That was a great once in a lifetime. 🙂👍

I grew up just to the right on the bridge crossing before the bridge crossing into Washington. That bridge crossed over the entrance of Youngs Bay where Lewis and Clark wintered up the the now Lewis and Clark River. BTW mt step dad helped build both those bridges.

That is sooooo cool! I loved the bridges on the Oregon coast!❤
We stopped at the Lewis and Clark historic location too. My daughter really loved the historical re-enactments.

Another chance to enjoy the back roads and small towns...and leave the driving to Russ! So much great stuff so see on the Oregon coast--I've driven it several times but there's never enough time to see everything. I love the approach roads and trails along the coast, there's an air of expectation as you wind your way through the forest just waiting to see what's around the next turn. It's always fun to stop in Tillamook to snack on some cheese and the air museum there is worth a stop--the Mini Guppy is really neat. Until next time, happy trails!
