Where Roses Grow Intro
Resurrection Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, the hours of agony in that darkened room, silhouetted by an ache to be desired by someone,
Hating who you are and what you've made of yourself, not forgiving yourself for you,
What was I trying to prove, running from you?
And it hurts me so to see that box I know, filled with photographs of things I knew,
But you promised me you'd make all things new.

Paint a picture of a lonely life,
Paint a picture of a cold, grey night,
Paint a picture of the emptiest day you've ever known,
Paint a picture of a starving man,
Paint a picture, being born again,
Paint a picture of an empty cage, for this bird has flown.

Oh,
Oh.

When you live all alone, hating your only companion, oh, they tell you it's alright, but, baby, you know that's a lie,
Oh, I reached the bottom; I hope you don't have to find out the way I did,
Trip after trip, and try after try, after try.

Paint a picture of a broken heart,
Paint that picture, and you can start to understand the love of the saviour and, oh, how he understands you,
Paint a picture of a blood-covered cross,
See that picture and you'll know what it cost, the price God paid to prove his love for you.

To prove his love for you,
To prove his love for you,
To prove his love for you, oh.

He died to prove his love for you,
Yes, he did,
Yes, he did,
Died to prove his love for you, oh,

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
(Fade)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Where Roses Grow by Resurrection Band depict the struggles of loneliness, self-doubt, and the journey towards finding oneself in the hands of the savior. The opening stanza describes the pain of self-loathing and the longing for validation and acceptance from someone else. The singer hates who they are and what they have made of themselves, yet they are running away from their only hope, which is Jesus. The line "But you promised me you'd make all things new" shows a ray of hope towards redemption and finding peace in the savior.

The second stanza of the song paints a picture of a bleak, lonely life where the singer is the only company. However, the lyrics signify that there is hope in being born again in Christ, and it is a way of breaking free from the chains of personal struggles. The line "Paint a picture of an empty cage, for this bird has flown" shows the singer's liberation from their struggles.

In the final stanza, the lyrics illustrate the victory of redemption and the price paid by Christ on the cross. The line "Paint a picture of a blood-covered cross, see that picture, and you'll know what it cost, the price God paid to prove his love for you" emphasizes the unconditional love of God, which is manifested in the death of his son, Jesus Christ, for the redemption of humanity.

Where Roses Grow

Empty promises that were etched in stone,
Scattered by the wind to places I have known,
All the burning lamps by the window pane, lit for their return, but they never came,
I lose myself in deep regret, still I hear a voice that I can't forget.

It says we will run where roses grow, our feet unbound at last,
Laugh as morning dawns; the night forever passed,
See the face of glory, feel the river flow,
Hear the voice of God and run where roses grow.

Fading hope is gathered as the sky grows dim,
Somewhere it's raining, but it's drought... drought within,
Out across the desert - was it fate or was it chance?
I saw clouds approaching where I took my stance.

They say we will run where roses grow, our feet unbound at last,
Laugh as morning dawns; the night forever passed,
See the face of glory, feel the river flow,
Hear the voice of God and run where roses grow,
Hear the thunder rolling - can you hear the horn?
I'm climbing Jacob's ladder up through the storm.

Stand with me at the mercy seat, with mounds... mounds of ashes spread about my feet,
You know who I am, all I think I know,
See it in the marrow, buried deep in the bone,
How is there no anger in the words I hear, only love and mercy erasing every fear?

You say we will run where roses grow, our feet unbound at last,
Laugh as morning dawns; the night forever passed,
See the face of glory, feel the river flow,
Hear the voice of God and run where roses grow,
Hear the thunder rolling - can you hear the horn?
I'm climbing Jacob's ladder up, up, up through the storm.

It's ashamed that someone this good is forgotten because he was a follower of the Christ.

I've been listening to Rez Band/Glenn Kaiser since I was 12 ... I'm 50 now and still got these fantastic tunes on my cell play list. Mixes in well with many of the secular 70's 80's rock music.

Some of my favorite Rez songs: Gameroom, Zuid Afrikan, Military Man, Lincoln's Train, Players, So in Love With You, Alter of Pain, Beyond The Gun, Where Roses Grow, In My Room, Bargain, 2000, Shadows, Souls For Hire, Walk Away, Souls For Hire, & Tears in The Rain

...what a legacy...

Thanks Glenn, Wendy, Stu, Roy, John, Jim, & all other contributers to what successfully became The Resurrection Band...

@prunellalefay
