Reason To Believe
Rod Stewart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied, straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself

If I gave you time to change my mind
I'd find a way just to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied, straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied, straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself, woo

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rod Stewart's song Reason To Believe explore the themes of love, heartbreak, and the search for truth in a relationship. The persona in the song is trying to find a reason to believe in the love that they shared with their partner, despite the fact that the partner lied to them and caused them emotional pain. The persona is struggling to let go of the past, but is also open to the possibility of reconciliation if their partner can change their ways. The phrase "someone like you" is repeated throughout the song, suggesting that this experience is not unique to this particular relationship, but is something that many people go through in their romantic lives.

The lyrics also touch on the idea that being in love can make it difficult to live without someone, but that same love can make it easy to give up thinking about oneself. This speaks to the sacrifices and compromises that people make in relationships, as well as the emotional intensity that comes with being in love.

Overall, the lyrics of Reason To Believe are emotional and relatable, capturing the universal experience of love and heartbreak.

His songs, The majority of his songs he did not write and some of the ones he did he plagiarized and had to pay dearly. Just ask Bob Dylan! He's a poser. Even copied his singing style from the late great Steve Marriott. This song was written by another great Tim Hardin.

Complete and utter nonsense. Get over yourself.
The world recycles itself all the time: Great songs and tunes. The Beatles and the Stones started in the same way.
Rod Stewart makes a great job of every song he sings.
I call it paying homage.
