He started to sing with orquestas like Hot Blowers in the 50th.
In 1965 he formed "El Kinto". In spanish kinto means fifth, beacuse the band was the fifth of Eduardo Mateo, his friend and also a symbol of the uruguayan music.
In 1969 Rada started to play with Totem, at the same time, he met Fattoruso`s brother and played with them in OPA.
After many years living outside, Rada went back to Montevideo, and published a new album called "Montevideo" (1993)
Rada has lots of fans in Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil.
When Paul Mc Cartney went to South America and listen tipical music, he became very impressed with Rada style.
Tengo un Candombre Para Gardel

Lindos recuerdos yo tengo de el,
Y hablo de un tiempo que fue muy gris
Con la pobresa cerca de mi
Solo su voz me ponia feliz.
Lindo sombrero tenia gardel
Blanca sonrisa como un clavel
Interpretados por Don gardel
Pero la cosa no pudo ser.
Los muchachos de la barra callejera
Que sentimos el candombe bien de bien
Nos sentamos a cantar en la vereda
Con tambores algun tango de Gardel
Y una muchacha que pasaba
Relojeando el tamborin
Suavemente me decia
Que calor hace en abril
(X2)
The lyrics of Rubén Rada's song "Tengo un Candombe para Gardel" are a tribute to the legendary tango singer Carlos Gardel. The singer speaks of his fond memories of Gardel, whom he saw as a source of happiness during a difficult and impoverished time. The artist describes Gardel's impeccable style, with a charming smile as white as a carnation and a stylish hat. The singer longed to hear Gardel perform candombes, but unfortunately, that never happened. As a result, the singer and his friends took to singing Gardel's tangos on the street corners with the rhythm of candombes, impressing even passers-by like the woman who compliments the tambourine player but who laments the heat in April.
The song is not merely about Gardel, but it also serves as an ode to the Candombe style of Afro-Uruguayan music that comes from the Montevideo area. Candombe is a drum-based musical genre that was originated in African traditions and is now a fundamental aspect of Uruguayan culture, where it is celebrated annually with vibrant performances. Candombe can be heard in this song not only with the associated rhythm and style of music they sing it in the street corners but also by the inclusion of everyday elements from the streets.
