Born in Paris, Séverine won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 for Monaco, performing "Un banc, un arbre, une rue" (A bench, a tree, a street), with music by Jean-Pierre Bourtayre and words by Yves Dessca. It was recorded in English as "Chance In Time", in German as "Mach die Augen zu (und wünsch dir einen Traum)" and Italian as "Il posto". The French version made #9 in the UK charts in April 1971, whereas the English version, released on CBS rather than Philips, did not chart. The song charted highly in most other European markets. Séverine had further success in France and Germany, but never again on an international scale.
Séverine made two further attempts at winning the Eurovision Song Contest, participating in the German national finals of 1975 and 1982. Neither song won. She accompanied Monaco's delegation to the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens.

Chacun s'envole rempli d'espoir
Pourtant quelque soit notre vue, notre vue
The song "Un banc, un arbre, une rue" by French singer Séverine talks about the sentimental memories of childhood and the realization of the inevitability of growing-up and moving on in life. The lyrics speak about the universal experiences connected with a shared sense of nostalgia for a time when everything felt simpler and the world was full of endless possibilities. Séverine emphasizes that everyone has a special place, a bench, a tree or a street, which has played an important role in their childhood, and in which they have dreamed about the future. She stresses the idea that despite the different paths people take, whether it be towards wealth or fame, they are united by a common thread of memories and emotions, shared through their experiences of childhood.
The song seems to highlight the challenges of growing up, which can be painful as it requires leaving behind the familiar and moving towards a more independent life. It speaks to the uncertainties and fears of the future and the loss of innocence as one grows up. While it can be difficult to leave behind one’s childhood places, the song also emphasizes that the memories will stay with us forever.
Overall, the song’s theme is one of nostalgia and the inevitability of change as one grows up, with a reminder to value and cherish the memories of childhood.

I cannot believe this song is 51 years old. But it is a true classic and has stood the test of time. A simple ballad beautifully sung.
