The first demo-tape "Nostalgische Atavismen" sold more than 500 copies in the worldwide underground, slowly spreading the news that "Samsas Traum" someday might become more than a very strange little band with even stranger german vocals. After recording and releasing two more demo- and promo-tapes, the band signed their record deal with "Trisol Music Group Germany" (London After Midnight, Sopor Aeternus, L'âme Immortelle) on the 1st of march 1999, exactly three years after the bands foundation. The chief-manager of "Trisol" got to know about "Samsas Traum" randomly; he was phoning "Orkus Magazine" concerning adverts, and the person in charge listened to the bands' latest promo-release while talking to him.

Was macht der Elefant im Wald?
The first stanza of the song "Igel im Nebel" by Samsas Traum, talks about the desire to share the sky with someone special. The singer wants to divide the sky into two halves, keeping one half for himself and giving the other half to his loved one. The right side of the chimney is where all the stars that belong to his beloved will shine tonight. The lyrics reveal the singer's desire to share everything with his loved one, even the skies.
The second stanza poses a series of questions that are both introspective and abstract. The singer asks if the one he loves also likes the scent of flowering almond trees and if horses drink mist while they are asleep. The questions are here to establish deeper communication between the two, realizing whether they are on the same emotional wavelength or not. After the questions, the singer asks the wise catfish to carry him to the shore where the juniper fire burns. He is curious to know why everything is different now, and why everything is invisible.
The third and final stanza has a more intimate tone as the singer counts the stars with his loved one. Both sit on chairs and eat raspberry jam together. The lyrics express how everything tastes better when they're together. The couple hears the hooting of owls and the sound of the wind, and the singer remarks at how wonderful it is to be together. He then asks the firefly to be his candle and light the way where he can't see. However, the last line of the stanza is unexpected, where the singer interrupts himself and wonders why there is an elephant in the forest.
