Formed in 1990, Sandy & Junior began by singing children's songs and sertanejo-influenced tracks (their first single, "Maria Chiquinha", is a classic sertanejo song). Once they reached adolescence, they changed their style to pop-influenced songs, mainly ballads and upbeat songs. The style-change was around the mid 1990s. Their albums Era Uma Vez... Ao Vivo (1998), As Quatro Estações (1999), Quatro Estações: O Show (2000) and Sandy & Junior (2001) sold more than a million units and were certified multi-platinum or diamond in Brazil.
They had a self-titled weekly television series between 1999 and 2003 on Rede Globo and released the movie Acquaria in 2003; Sandy also starred the soap opera Estrela Guia (Globo) in 2001. Earlier, they had appeared in Renato Aragão movie O Noviço Rebelde, in 1997. Both have experienced solo work: Junior was the drummer of alternative rock band Nove Mil Anjos (which also features former Charlie Brown Jr. member Champignon on bass guitar), and part of an EDM duo called Manimal. Sandy, on the other hand, has a solid solo carreer.
In 2002, they were the first national artists to do a paid concert at Maracanã stadium in Rio.
The duo announced on 17 April 2007 that an MTV Unplugged album to be recorded in May 2007 would be their final work together, through a video posted on their website addressed to their fans and in a press conference, stating also that their career as a duo would be over at the end of 2007.
Their 17 years of career has granted them partnerships with several national and international artists, such as Xuxa, Roberto Carlos, Milton Nascimento, Toquinho, Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, Andrea Bocelli and Enrique Iglesias, and more than 20 million albums sold around the globe, making them the ninth best selling Brazilian artists of all time.
In March 2019, after a 12-year hiatus, the duo announced a new tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first performance together, Nossa História Tour. Starting in July 2019, the siblings commemorated their successful career with their greatest hits in a tour through the largest cities in Brazil.

Eu mal posso esperar
Tomo o leite vou pro quarto
Rapidinho eu chego lá
Boto um disco, som na caixa
Deixo a franga se soltar
A lambada é tão gostada
Faz a gente balançar
Lambada, lambada
Deixa comigo, pois eu já sei rebolar
Lambada, lambada
Este som mexe com a gente
Faz a gente balançar
Quando eu chego da escola
Eu mal posso esperar
Tomo o leite, pego o skate
E vou pra rua brincar
Mas o som tá muito alto
Eu não consigo me afastar
Volto logo e pego a mana
E vamos lambadear
Lambada, lambada
Deixa comigo, pois eu já sei rebolar
Lambada, lambada
Este som mexe com a gente
Faz a gente balançar
E no final de semana
Que nós vamos passear
É na praia ou no clube
Seja lá qualquer lugar
Pego a fita, e eu o tape
Pra bagagem completar
Pra nós se não tem lambada
Não tem graça passear
Lambada, lambada
Deixa comigo, pois eu já sei rebolar
Lambada, lambada
Este som mexe com a gente
Faz a gente balançar
Lambada, lambada
Deixa comigo, pois eu já sei rebolar
Lambada, lambada
Este som mexe com a gente
Faz a gente balançar
The lyrics to Sandy e Junior's song "Lambamania" are filled with nostalgia for the carefree days of childhood and the playful energy of youth. The song begins with the excitement of coming home from school and the anticipation of enjoying the freedom of dancing alone in one's room to the infectious beat of lambada music. The lambada is described as a dance that is both enjoyable and contagious, making everyone want to move and groove along with the rhythm.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the lambada is more than just a fun dance; it is a way of life. Whether riding a skateboard or hanging out at the beach, the lambada accompanies the singer as a constant source of joy and energy. The final verse underscores the importance of the lambada, suggesting that without it, life has no flavor or excitement.
Overall, "Lambamania" is an ode to the lambada, a dance born in Brazil in the mid-80s that became an international sensation with hits like "Chorando se foi" by Kaoma. It speaks to the power of music to transport and uplift, and to the role of dance as an expression of freedom and joy.

Quando eu chego da escola
As soon as I come home from school
Eu mal posso esperar
I just can't wait
Tomo o leite vou pro quarto
I drink my milk and head to my room
Rapidinho eu chego lá
I quickly get there
Boto um disco, som na caixa
I put on a record and turn up the sound
Deixo a franga se soltar
I let loose and dance freely
A lambada é tão gostada
Lambada is so enjoyable
Faz a gente balançar
It makes us move
Lambada, lambada
Lambada, lambada
Deixa comigo, pois eu já sei rebolar
Leave it to me, I already know how to dance
Este som mexe com a gente
This music moves us
Quando eu chego da escola
As soon as I come home from school
Eu mal posso esperar
I just can't wait
Tomo o leite, pego o skate
I drink my milk and grab my skateboard
E vou pra rua brincar
And head outside to play
Mas o som tá muito alto
But the music is too loud
Eu não consigo me afastar
I can't stay away
Volto logo e pego a mana
I come back and grab my sister
E vamos lambadear
And we'll dance the lambada
E no final de semana
And on the weekend
Que nós vamos passear
When we go out and explore
É na praia ou no clube
Whether at the beach or the club
Seja lá qualquer lugar
Anywhere at all
Pego a fita, e eu o tape
I grab the cassette tape
Pra bagagem completar
To complete our luggage
Pra nós se não tem lambada
For us, if there isn't any lambada
Não tem graça passear
It's not fun to go out
Lambada, lambada
Lambada, lambada
Deixa comigo, pois eu já sei rebolar
Leave it to me, I already know how to dance
Este som mexe com a gente
This music moves us
Faz a gente balançar
It makes us move
