Derided by critics early in his career, Weiland was known for his flamboyant and chaotic onstage persona; he was also known for constantly changing his appearance and vocal style, for his use of a megaphone in concerts for vocal effect, and for his battles with substance abuse. Now widely viewed as a talented and versatile vocalist, Weiland has been ranked in the Top 100 Heavy Metal Vocalists by Hit Parader (No. 57).
In 2012, Weiland formed the backing band The Wildabouts. The band received mixed reviews, and some critics and fans noted Weiland's failing health. In December 2015, Weiland died of an accidental drug overdose on his tour bus in Minnesota at the age of 48. Upon his death, many critics and peers offered re-evaluations of Weiland's life and career; those critics included David Fricke of Rolling Stone and Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, who identified Weiland as one of the "voices of the generation" alongside Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley.

About Nothing
Scott Weiland Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But she's waiting at the candy store
She got nothing
But she's waiting at the candy store
She's got nothing nothing
She still wants more
She's got nothing nothing
She said
So turn your head
Unlock the door
You'll never get what you had before
So turn your head
Unlock the door
You'll never get what you had before
She waits while you think about it
And while you think about nothing
She waits while you think about it
And while you think about nothing
She got nothing
But she's waiting at the candy store
She got nothing
But she's waiting at the candy store
She's got nothing nothing
She still wants more
She's got nothing nothing
She still wants more
She said
So turn your head
Unlock the door
You'll never get what you had before
So turn your head
Unlock the door
You'll never get what you had before
She waits while you think about it
And while you think about nothing
She waits while you think about it
And while you think about nothing
So turn your head
Unlock the door
You'll never get what you had before
So turn your head
Unlock the door
You'll never get what you had before
She waits while you think about it
And while you think about nothing
She waits while you think about it
And while you think about nothing
The lyrics of Scott Weiland’s song “About Nothing” explore the theme of insatiability through a female character who is forever seeking more - despite having nothing. Weiland’s use of repetition, particularly in the chorus, highlights this unrelenting desire for something more. The phrase ‘she’s got nothing, nothing, she still wants more’ is emblematic of the woman’s state of mind as she waits at the candy store.
The stanza where the female character addresses the listener and encourages them to ‘turn your head and unlock the door…you’ll never get what you had before’ conveys a revelation at the root of the woman’s insatiability - that nothing is ever enough. The repetition of the lines, ‘she waits while you think about it, and while you think about nothing’ is a reminder that while the listener thinks, the woman continues to wait and want for more. In essence, while the listener might be thinking, she obsesses and waits - satisfying her cravings with the potential for more - regardless of what she has already consumed.
