The Sound of Silence
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence"

When you google "Who sings the sound of silence", Disturbed is what pops up, not S&G. That's a crime in my book.

Edit:

I made a few mistakes with this comment. First of all, if more people want to find Disturbed's version for whatever reason, it is technically "correct" to show that version as the first result (this is just what Google is designed for, not because one version is better than the other).

Also, there is a distinction between the "The Sounds of Silence" and "The Sound of Silence". The original (this version) is called the "The Sounds of Silence" and the Disturbed one the latter. When you look up "Who sings the sounds of silence" it does indeed show S&G, whereas "Who sings the sound of silence" shows the Disturbed version. Interestingly, as of right now, the search must not be in quotes, because if they are then S&G is what is shown for both (Google sometimes works in mysterious ways).

No crime has been committed like I originally claimed. Pick the version that you like and enjoy it. For me, I like the original and the cover by Disturbed not so much, but to each their own. We all have our own unique musical preferences and there's something for everybody out there.

Another self proclaimed depreciation comment here
Lose it in the massive wave of other comments
Don't notice me
Forget this comment.
So many of us sons without fathers are left to create something from nothing.
I've seen them in the streets
Many of them will fail and no nothing other than irrelevance
Some will prosper
It will be beautiful.
Goodbye.

Sketches for you

This song reminds me of Gus Johnson’s friend Ian, who he made a song for. I played this immediately after hearing it. I’m sorry for your loss.
