Daddy Boy
Skycycle Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You seem so sure
So cold and quiet
How've you been
Resisting the urge to love your boy
See the boy so vulnerable and crying
See the man he understands
How do you live
Is bitter bliss
Do you know what happiness is
Can you feel the scars
They're yours
They're ours
Ah do you know what a fool you are
See the boy so vulnerable and crying
See the man he understands
And he's long since stopped trying to have a daddy boy
You could have had
You could have had
A son
You could have had a son
You could have had a son
Oh you could have had so much more
Than a man
Who must call you his father
Why bother?
The lyrics to Skycycle's song "12 Daddy Boy" seem to address a father-son relationship that has been strained, potentially due to the father's inability to show love and affection to his son. The son is portrayed as vulnerable and emotional, while the father is depicted as cold and aloof. The lyrics suggest that the father has intentionally resisted the urge to love his son, and that this has caused lasting emotional scars. The chorus, "See the boy so vulnerable and crying / See the man he understands / And he's long since stopped trying to have a daddy boy," implies that the son has come to accept the reality of the situation and has given up on trying to connect with his father.
The verses of the song are introspective, with the singer questioning the father's perspective and life choices. The lyric "How do you live / Is bitter bliss / Do you know what happiness is" suggests that the father's refusal to connect with his son may have resulted in a hollow or unfulfilled life. The line "Can you feel the scars / They're yours / They're ours" acknowledges the lasting impact that the father's behavior has had on both him and his son. The final lyric, "Why bother?" seems to implore the father to reflect on his choices and consider whether it was worth sacrificing a relationship with his son.
