El Callejon
Sonia Lopez Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Salí de mi trabajo
Y un tipo me siguió
Y aunque me gustaba
Sentí algo de temor

Como era ya muy tarde
Para alejarme así
Entre por otra calle
Y el tipo tras de mi

Que miedo hay
El que sentí
Un callejón donde yo entre
El corazón me hacia tictac
No había ni para donde
Y el tipo por detrás

------------fig-------------

------------fig-------------
Se repite desde A

El tipo solo quiso la hora nadamas
El tipo solo quiso la hora nadamas.

Overall Meaning

Sonia López's song El Callejón tells the story of a woman who is leaving work when she notices someone following her. Though she acknowledges that she is attracted to this person, she still feels afraid. As it is already late in the night, she tries to lose him by going down a different path, but the man continues to follow her. As she enters an alleyway, she feels her heartbeat increase and is terrified that there is nowhere to run. Suddenly, the man catches up to her, and she panics, frozen and unable to scream. However, to her relief, the man only asks for the time and leaves her alone.

The lyrics convey the fear and vulnerability that women commonly feel in public spaces. The woman in the song is fully aware of the danger of being alone at night, and her fear of being followed is evident. Her relief at the man's benign intentions is also palpable, illustrating how women are always on guard and scanning their environment for potential threats. The song highlights the importance of safety and situational awareness, especially for women who face disproportionate risks when navigating public spaces alone.
