1) Spliff is a grindcore band from Lixouri, Kefalonia, an island in Greece.

Spliff is:
El Crocodilo - Guitar
Crunkhead - Bass
Hydro Skunk 420 - Vocals
Sparky Red Eye - Drums and backing vocals

2) Spliff was a German New Wave ("Neue Deutsche Welle") band in the 1970s and 1980s.

Formed in April 1979, Spliff was a split-off of the Nina Hagen Band after the four male musicians claimed that Nina had become too bossy.
Three members, Manfred Praeker (b), Bernhard Potschka (g) and Herwig Mitteregger (dr) had been playing together before in German political rock band Lokomotive Kreuzberg. Reinhold Heil (key) joined for the Nina Hagen Band. On their 3 german albums all of them took turns at the lead singer part.

Spliff released four albums:
- The English album Spliff Radio Show (1980) is a rather cynical rock opera about the rise and fall of an imaginary rock star and Rock'n'Roll business in common. "The Spliff Radio Show" was co-written by Australian singer Alf Klimek ("Klimax“) who also took the lead vocals part. They were Joined by DJ Rik DeLisle and background singers Lisa Bialac und Lyma Russel
Three German albums (just Praeker, Potschka, Heil, Mitteregger):
- 85555 (1982). Driven by the neue deutsche welle hype this album has been their greatest success in Germany
- Herzlichen Glückwunsch (1982)
- Schwarz Auf Weiß (1984)

In 1985 Herwig Mitteregger left the band to focus on his solo career. After 1985 "Schwarz auf Weiß"-tour (supported by Curt Cress on drums) the band split up.

It's also strange how someone such as myself, who was born in the mid-2000s and most of my early childhood was 2009-2015, can still get a blast of nostalgia from vaporwave (0:44 especially on this playlist). I have memories waking up in the dead of winter to the sound of my mum making coffee, and the local radio station talking about the heavy snow that had just fallen overnight. I had the experience of VHS and DVD, and we had a whole basket of tapes. I remember playing flash games with classmates and at home by myself with an old and clunky Windows 7 laptop. Taking car rides in the rain with 80s-90s songs playing on a CD. I remember watching shows like Leave it to Beaver on Friday nights - the only times we were allowed to stay up until 9pm or so. I didn't spend as much time on the internet as other kids my age did. After school, we'd play with our playmobil horses and delve into a fantasy world until dinner. Looking back, I'm glad it was that way.

I long for those days sometimes, but also push through by looking ahead to the future. This pandemic will cease, and though things may get worse than better, I can still have faith and hope. Faith that providence has a plan for me, and hope that my adult life won't be meaningless - who knows, maybe it'll be as good as my childhood was.

I was born in the 1970's so the 80's and 90's were all part of my life as a teenager in the coming of age portion of my life. I've witnessed first hand things like my friend getting a brand new Apple MacIntosh computer in 1984 with a music making software...it was really cool and super expensive. Most of my life was pre-internet where we had to go to the library to learn things. Encyclopedia's were a gold mine. Our video games were played on Atari 2600. TV was everything! and MTV was a good source of music entertainment. Later on, I was working in my first office job during 9/11 and we were glued to the news on radio at work, and later that evening at home on TV. We thought that World War III was going to start. I can look back to the many many hours I spent at the mall as a teenager trying to run into many pretty girls I wanted to get to know better. Things are very different now. I try my best to look forward, but the past still conjures up great memories and nostagia. Vaporwave helps me with it all.

God I love this so much. It captures the nostalgia of an era in such a weird, surreal way. I guess that is basically the appeal of vaporwave. The funny thing is at the time I hated a lot of those commercials because I saw them over & over again...if you watched late night TV the commercials were just the same ones every 10 minutes or so and they got repetitive to the point of driving you nuts. But it's been enough time that now seeing them is fun, especially done like this where they're patchworked into a collage backed by the music. I love putting this on while I'm doing other stuff, but it's especially soothing to fall asleep to.

@joeyberndt I agree it is a portal. The present mix is by intention accompanied by the video ads and we cannot consume the one without the other. (yes, consumption, because by design this here in particular is consumption music. Using ads as the basic building block this is music of, for and by consumers, and just as with any ad we cannot separate the visual from the aural. We want to consume here the 1980s) The purpose is not the music. The purpose is to travel back. But back to where and how real is this "where"? The cool 80s tunes set you on your trip to the happiness of early childhood (for me), while the ads and the low fi, high background static noise demagnetized VHS tape sound and visual aids add realism that arguably could help one extract more from their memories. The question is whether the context you construct resting on your memory of the time but derived with the aid of the music and video here is yours or the product of the same audio-visual devices? Does the young listener and the one who lived through the 80s , once both going through the portal, end in the same place? Maybe the bunch of us here do... The 80’s was the “you can do anything” and “excess” decade. After Vietnam and the horrible economics of the 70’s, America needed this mentality actually to survive. It was bold, in-your-face and often times just sheer ridiculous but there was something safe and hopeful about the 80s. People
yearn for this now more than ever. The internet and digital age hit us so hard that we can still feel these dim memories of a bygone era yet can’t explain why we still want it. Everything in society is telling us to forget about it...but we can’t.

That transition between the end of “landscape design” by Lindshaven Virtual Plaza and “End of the Night” by S U R F I N G was utterly perfect. Those Weather Channel tornado watch broadcast samples work so well as transitions between songs. This whole playlist is literally the best and has the essential vapor songs if you wanna get into the genre.

This has been my favorite (not just vaporwave video on youtube) video on youtube since ive seen it. I've been watching this video ever so often for years now and I don't think I've every actually commented on it..... Probably because I never quite knew what to say. However I feel like I do now..... I feel like in watching this video mix.... I understand you.... Like artistically, I understand why you put what song with what image at what time. Everything just matches....The editing is perfect....The songs choices and the way they transition into each other are perfect. This entire video feels as if it has this.... almost pseudo early 2000's williams street theme'd [Adult Swim] vibe to it but it's still so unique and original. The opening, the middle, the interludes and the ending were all so perfect..... The entire of this video just takes you back to a simpler, worry-free happier time......This video just feels like home....

Yeah I mean most places don't just change over night (unless they are big cities), and most development happens because there is money to be made there. Even with that being said, its not like a big office building is just going to be torn down because its 30-40 years old. Big building projects are undertaken by major corporations and when governments or other institutions (university) put investment into them. Now I could see certain buildings from the 80s getting renovations because they are "outdated," but yeah of course there are going to be places just left the same.

Legitimately made me cry when it went from that jazz song to talking about the intense hurricane warning then going back to an eerily light hearted song. It was strangely beautiful and scary at the same time. Really shows how life can be. One second to the next you never know what’s going to happen and also the feeling of when something so intense is happening that your body can’t even process it so it just feels eerily numb

I listen to this specific mix when it hits 11PM while I do my homework, and it reminds me of a lot of my childhood. Mind you I wasn't born in the '80s but I remember the fuzzy commercials and the snazzy music playing on the news when it gave us the events of the day in the city. The mix gives me such a feeling of comfort like I'm waking up in my living room with my red couches and my dad is on the other one with a bag of chips next to him asleep. It's a Saturday night, about 11:45PM, and all I gotta worry about is do I have a soccer game tomorrow and if I have my uniform ready. I decide no and fall asleep to the glow of another commercial about a cleaning product before switching back to an old TV show.

Absolute favourite Vapourwave mix so far; love it when it switches into "Reminiscences" by Ariel Pink. Always skipped that song on the album when I was younger, now I always listen to it. Amazing how much these songs really capture that sense of the impossible, and non-existant realm of the future that you wanted to exist as a child.
Reminds me so much of when I was not even 10 years old in the 90s and how everything seemed so optimistic. Now we know all that was a lie and came crashing down in the 2010s after people exceeded their credit and couldn't borrow anymore, but still, that sense of lycra shellsuits and leisure centres that this evokes, lives on.
