(2) Steve Lacy (July 23, 1934 – June 4, 2004), born Steven Norman Lackritz in New York City, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer recognized as one of the important players of soprano saxophone. Coming to prominence in the 1950s as a progressive dixieland musician, Lacy went on to a long and prolific career. He worked extensively in experimental jazz and to a lesser extent in free improvisation, but Lacy's music was typically melodic and tightly structured. Lacy also became a highly distinctive composer, with compositions often built out of little more than a single questioning phrase, repeated several times.
After Lacy was diagnosed with cancer in August 2003, he continued playing and teaching until weeks before his death on June 4, 2004 at the age of 69.

You're different (different), unusual (unusual)
I love your style (love your style), so original (original)
Seem so unreal (so unreal), like you're mythical (mythical)
Donchano (donchano, donchano)
Ayy, donchano (donchano, donchano)
Ayy, donchano (donchano, donchano)
I know you know (know you know, know you know)
Baby, I know that you don't see yourself as one of them
But honestly, girl, I believe that you're a hundred out of ten
You've been going through some things (I want you to feel better)
If you're feeling cold (here put on my sweater)
But when you're feeling down (I hope you can remember)
I hope you can remember this
Donchano (donchano), you're beautiful (beautiful)
You're different (different), unusual (unusual)
I love your style (love your style), so original (original)
Seem so unreal (so unreal), like you're mythical (mythical)

In Steve Lacy's song "Donchano," the lyrics express admiration and appreciation for someone who is unique and stands apart from the rest. The song is an ode to this individual's originality and beauty, emphasizing that they are different and unusual in a positive way. The lyrics convey a genuine love and admiration for this person's style and overall persona, describing them as so unreal that they almost seem mythical.
The repeated phrase "Donchano" is a play on the phrase "Don't ya know," which is a colloquial way of asking if someone is aware of something or understands something. In this context, it is used as a term of endearment for the person being addressed in the song. The lyrics reinforce the idea that the person being praised may not fully recognize their own worth, but the singer believes them to be exceptional, giving them a rating of "a hundred out of ten."
The song also conveys a sense of care and concern for this individual. The lyrics mention that they have been going through some challenging experiences, and the singer wants them to feel better. The mention of offering their sweater when feeling cold suggests a desire to provide comfort and support. The overall message is one of encouragement, with the singer hoping that this person will remember their own beauty and uniqueness, even in difficult times.
