After taking a brief recording hiatus in the mid-1990s to start a family with her husband, songwriter Doug Crider, Bogguss returned to the country music scene to find that her charting power had already faded. Although she last appeared on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 1999, Bogguss continues to record and perform around the country to a loyal following.
Her most recent recordings have ventured into swing and jazz variations of country. These albums really showcase the tremendous talent in her voice. Suzy is a true singer, and her voice has so much versatility.
In 2014, Suzy added an album of Merle Haggard songs entitled "Lucky". The country & western flavor dominates this album, unlike some of her other recent work. To promote this new album, Suzy has embarked on a nationwide tour.
I Surrender

If I wanted to
I could stand up right now walk away from you
If I wanted to
There's a part of me
That would like to believe, but it isn't true
I'm tied to you
These feelings you're stirring up, I never knew existed
I surrender
There's no use in fighting
As strong as I am, this is stonger than me
I'm outnumbered
So many emotions are holding me down
And setting me free, so tender
This pull on my heart, I surrender
It amazes me
When I look in your eyes how clear I see
It amazes me
There's a part of you that's a part of me too and it calls to me
It's like destiny
It's a natural thing that I've been concealing
I'm gonna drop my defenses and give in to this feeling
I surrender
There's no use in fighting
As strong as I am, this is stonger than me
I'm outnumbered
So many emotions are holding me down
And setting me free, so tender
This pull on my heart, I surrender
So many emotions are holding me down
And setting me free, so tender
This pull on my heart, I surrender
The lyrics of "I Surrender" by Suzy Bogguss and Doug Crider reflect the internal struggle of an individual who is torn between their desire to walk away from a relationship and the undeniable emotional connection they feel towards their partner. The persona is aware that they have the ability to leave the relationship if they choose to, but there is a powerful force that binds them to their significant other. The feeling of being "tied" to the other person is described as a natural and irresistible phenomenon, bringing to light emotions that were previously unknown to the persona.
The persona acknowledges their vulnerability and admits that they are unable to resist the overwhelming feelings that their partner evokes within them. Despite their inner strength, they find themselves at the mercy of these emotions, outnumbered by the intensity of their love and connection. The struggle between their rational desire to resist and their emotional surrender is palpable in the lyrics, highlighting the internal conflict that the persona is grappling with.
The revelation of the persona's realization when they gaze into their partner's eyes is portrayed as a moment of clarity and astonishment. They recognize a deep connection between themselves and their partner, a connection that feels almost fated or destined. This realization serves as a catalyst for the persona to let go of their inhibitions and defenses, allowing themselves to give in to the overwhelming feelings that have been stirring within them.
The chorus of the song, with its repetition of the word "surrender," encapsulates the essence of the persona's emotional journey. They come to terms with the fact that resistance is futile in the face of such profound emotions. The conflicting emotions of being both held down and set free by their feelings further emphasize the complexity of their inner turmoil. Ultimately, the persona embraces the tender pull on their heart and surrenders to the overwhelming love and connection they feel towards their partner, accepting the depth of their emotions and the power of their bond.
