Sandwiches
The Avalanches Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you wanna do it
You know I wanna do it too
Out here on the dance floor
We can make sandwiches

You can be the bun
And I can be the burger girl
I know you wanna do it
We can make sandwiches

So make your thighs like butter
Easy to spread
Out here on the dance floor
You know that we can do it

Yeah we can make sandwiches

I know you wanna do it
You know I wanna do it too
Out here on the dance floor
We can make sandwiches

You can be the bun
And I can be the burger girl
I know you wanna do it
We can make sandwiches

So make your thighs like butter
Easy to spread
Out here on the dance floor
You know that we can do it

Yeah we can make sandwiches

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Sandwiches" by The Avalanches are not meant to be taken literally. The song is actually a playful and somewhat provocative metaphor for two people wanting to get physically intimate with each other while on the dance floor. The opening lines, "I know you wanna do it, you know I wanna do it too," establish the mutual desire between the two individuals. The rest of the song uses food imagery in a suggestive way, with the idea of making "sandwiches" representing the act of having sex.

The lyrics also make use of gendered language, with the woman being likened to the "bun" and the man to the "burger girl." This could be interpreted as a commentary on gender roles and expectations in sexual encounters. Additionally, the line "make your thighs like butter, easy to spread" is a clever play on words that adds to the food-related metaphor.

Overall, "Sandwiches" is a fun and catchy song that uses clever wordplay and metaphors to convey a playful and sexual message.

@MrSilverchain69

Man, you re genius!

@gravityhypernova

Thanks for the excellent tracklist. Btw the Missy song is blended with Umm Kulthum - Laylat Hob (at least, at the start), which is Egyptian, not "weird Hindi music". The instrumental afterward sounds like it could be from a track from Fairuz, a Lebanese singer.

@Existence_denied

@@gravityhypernova thank you, i didn't know what track it was so i just made up a title until I found out when i started chasing songs from radio soulwax on hang the dj, I've really regretted it
