Live
The Bangles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You know, you got it now
Is that yourself or nothing at all
Oh, you think you live
Well, how can you, you're stuck in four walls

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life
You've been locked in you room you've never had a chance to roam
Away from home

So, you come and go
Well good day, don't waste anytime
Oh, your life today
It's all familiar, soon you will find

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life
You've been locked in you room you've never had a chance to roam
Away from home

Live, live, live, live
Live, live, live, live

Now, do what you want
Or where you want, it's all up to you
Ooh, you like the room
It's nice to do what you wanna do

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life
You've been locked in you room you've never had a chance to roam
Away from home

If you know by now
What life's about, go on now and live
And if you don't know how
It's not so hard, just let go and live

If you gotta go
You better live your life before you pass away
Don't waste a day
All your life
You've been locked in you room you've never had a chance to roam
Away from home

Live, live, live, live
Live, live, live, live

Overall Meaning

The Bangles' "Live" is a song about living life to the fullest, staying true to oneself, and not being weighed down by restraints or self-imposed limitations. The chorus urges the listener to go out and live their life before it's too late, to not waste a day and to not be confined by the four walls of their room. The opening lines of the first verse pose the question of whether the listener is living their life for themselves or not at all, and highlights the paradox for those who believe they are living but are really confined by their own limitations.

The lyrics then move to emphasize the restrictions faced by the listener, having been locked up in their own life, never given a chance to explore beyond their own bedroom. The bridge changes the mood to something brighter, stating that the listener can do what they want, where they want and live life on their own terms. The idea that they have been limited in the past is no longer relevant, they can now live life to the fullest.

The final verse emphasizes the importance of living and knowing how to do so, promoting the message that living is not a difficult task, meant to be enjoyed and embraced rather than feared. The chorus is vibrant and catchy, with a strong message urging the listener to live their life to the fullest.

Susana's voice can surely melt me down. 30 years later, same tone, same charm. Incredible!

@Allan TNT I know. I asked the poster to change it a month ago.

I don't believe this is from 2019. Susanna and the other girls are still pretty and amazing, but they do look much much older today, allegedly only four years later. This must be an older concert.

@Vinnie Doomen hahaha..exactly.

@jrock2264 She's the most selfish woman on earth. She clearly has discovered the fountain of youth, yet she doesn't share it's location. /j

They really are a class act. Michael has since left, she was such an amazing force. Having said that, this gig...absolutely brilliant. Im a hard rock / classic rock guy, and they have always been there.

Fabulous! Unforgettable beautiful harmonies, Susanna's side glances... 30+ years later, they sound and look better than ever. Such a great band.

I thought they were good in the 80s but I never knew they were this good! They sound even better.
