They made a name for themselves by consistently touring over the United States. Rather than signing with a known label, they initially decided to found their own, Chunksaah Records (named after their long-time friend Timmy Chunks), but are now releasing their albums on Epitaph Records.
The Bouncing Souls are one of the best selling and longest lived of the punk bands from New Jersey, following the legacy of previously successful punk bands Adrenalin OD and the Misfits.

Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Through the park, past the dog run
Smell of shit burning in the sun
Watch the cab, dent his door
Lock 'em up, lock 'em up, lock 'em up
Three cold beers, in a cup
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Inside Coney something ain't right
Too many people on a Friday night
I can't see straight in the flashing lights
But, I got a feeling there's gonna be a fight
Pack it up, wrap it up, saddle up
Full tank of liquor, in our guts
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Drink 'em down, we gotta a ride
Going out through the lower east side
Day or night, mags on the run
Looking for trouble, looking for fun
B-M-X, we got suss
When we ride, don't mess with us
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Ride! Ride! Ride! Ride!
Whoa
Whoa
Whoa
We are the mags!
The Bouncing Souls' song "East Side Mags" is an energetic and fast-paced anthem to friendship, urban exploration and freedom. The song's lyrics describe a group of friends going on a ride through the city, past the park, the dog run and the seedy corners of Coney Island. They are looking for adventure, for excitement, and for a sense of belonging. They are the mags, a tight-knit crew of misfits and outcasts who find solace and joy in skateboarding, BMX, graffiti and all forms of non-conformist expression. The song's chorus is a repeated call to action and togetherness, urging the mags to keep on riding, to keep on exploring, to keep on fighting against boredom and conformity.
The song's lyrics are full of vivid imagery and sensory details that evoke the gritty reality of urban life. The smell of burning shit, the flashing lights, the dent in the cab's door, all contribute to a sense of urgency and immediacy. The lyrics also contain a subtle critique of consumer culture and conformity, as the mags reject the blandness of the mainstream and seek out their own subcultural identity.
"East Side Mags" is a classic punk rock song that captures the spirit of adventure, rebellion and camaraderie. It celebrates the joys of youth and the power of friendship, while also recognizing the hardships and dangers that come with living on the margins of society. The song's driving rhythm and catchy chorus make it a perfect anthem for anyone who feels like an outsider or a rebel, and its enduring popularity is a testament to its universal appeal.
