Heaven and Hell
The Classic Crime Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm like a lost boy
Looking for his father in the wilderness
Days in the wrong direction
Wondering if I'll ever see his face again

But you know me too well
I bring it all on myself
Between heaven and hell
I've got no home

I'm like an old man
Tight lipped filled to the brim with only emptiness
Alone in my apartment
With all my doubt and shame, regret and bitterness

But you know me too well
I bring it all on myself
Between heaven and hell
I've got no home

Between heaven and hell
I've got no home

We are the heirs to every throne
We wander far from what we've known
We wait for love to call us home

We are the heirs to every throne
We wander far from what we've known
We wait for love to call us home

We are the heirs to every throne
We wander far from what we've known

We wait for love
We wait for more!

Overall Meaning

The Classic Crime's song Heaven and Hell metaphorically portrays the struggles of a lost and confused individual searching for a sense of belonging and purpose. The lyrics in the first two stanzas describe the search for a missing father figure and the feeling of being lost and directionless. The use of the wilderness as the setting portrays the vast and lonely journey one goes through to find their way back home. However, the singer acknowledges that their predicament is a result of their own doing, "I bring it all on myself," pointing to the internal struggles that contributed to their present state.

The chorus "Between heaven and hell I've got no home" further emphasizes the search for a place of belonging amidst the contrast between two opposing forces. The second verse paints the picture of an isolated old man consumed by negative emotions and regrets that weigh heavily on his heart. The repetition of the phrase "you know me too well" suggests that even in the midst of the individual's struggles, there is a voice of reason reminding them that they have control over their actions and choices.

The bridge, "We are the heirs to every throne, we wander far from what we've known, we wait for love to call us home," suggests that despite the struggles and hardship in life, there is hope for a better future. The lyrics convey that there is a sense of longing to return to a place of comfort, love, and acceptance. The Classic Crime's "Heaven and Hell" highlights the emotional turmoil and how it affects people's journeys and the need to find a place of peace, love, and belonging.

This is literally, not figuratively, one of the best songs I've ever heard.

@Neithernine

I hit my head until I had amnesia, then read a note i wrote earlier that read "listen to this song CLASSIC CRIME HEAVEN AND HELL" and so I did and was amazed. A second note I left said "you know what to do" So i hit my head again.

@LevierKL

Epic. This song describes my life perfectly. "Between Heaven and Hell, I've got no home......" Everyone wanders from the good. Everyone wants something more than heaven or hell, but in today's world there is nothing. Keep up the great work TCC.

I went from listening to "Hymn for Her" to seeing this on the side, expecting a cover of the Black Sabbath song named the same as this one... What I got was even better.
