Stylisticly, The Feeling have a debt of gratitude to the 70s, particularly bands such as 10cc, Supertramp, Pilot, Buggles, Queen, Stackridge, and other "progressive pop" acts. They are not averse to wearing their heart on their sleeve at gigs, playing covers of tunes by their favourite artists (such as 'Video Killed The Radio Star' by Buggles).
The Feeling have also followed the 'progressive' tradition of the concept album, with Twelve Stops and Home being a concept album about lost and unrequited love. The album starts with a relationship having just broken up, then follows through with the various emotions of the protagonist from hopeless dreamer to turning to drink for comfort, and finally slumping home.

It's a rock and roll disaster
Like you see in the papers
That you read on escalators
Did you smile 'cause you want it?
Did I put my finger on it?
It's a dream till you've lived it
Don't say anything
You're talking but you don't say anything
You don't do anything
You're moving but you don't do anything
So turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
Ain't nobody wants to be alone
There ain't nobody wants to be alone
Did you notice
When you walked into the office
With a cup on a plastic tray
All the joys in life that have slipped away?
Did you notice?
You don't say anything
You're talking but you don't say anything
You don't do anything
Keep moving but you don't do anything
So turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
There ain't nobody wants to be alone
Turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up to big love
And when your heart is sinking like a stone
Ain't nobody wants to be alone
You don't say anything
You're talking but you don't say anything
You don't do anything
Keep moving but you don't do anything
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
'cause little love just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
There ain't nobody wants to be alone
Yeah, turn it up, turn it up
'cause little live just ain't enough
Yeah, turn it up to big love
And when your heart is sinking like a stone
Ain't nobody wants to be alone
"Turn it Up" by The Feeling is a song that seems to be about a desire for more passion and excitement in life. The first verse suggests that the listener is seeking a "rock and roll disaster" like the ones that are often reported in the news. The singer wonders if they have correctly identified this desire and posits that it is only something that can be truly understood by living it. To receive this kind of excitement, one must also be willing to give of themselves.
The chorus emphasizes the idea that "little love just ain't enough" and that people don't want to be alone. This could be interpreted romantically, but it could also refer to a general dissatisfaction with one's life. The second verse adds to this idea with the image of someone bringing a cup of coffee to their office job and realizing that they have let the joys of life slip away. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, urging the listener to turn up the volume and seek out a bigger, more fulfilling kind of love.
Overall, the lyrics seem to be about a dissatisfaction with a mundane, ordinary life and a longing for something more exciting and passionate. The chorus is what ties the song together and emphasizes that we all need love and excitement in our lives to truly feel alive.
