Stylisticly, The Feeling have a debt of gratitude to the 70s, particularly bands such as 10cc, Supertramp, Pilot, Buggles, Queen, Stackridge, and other "progressive pop" acts. They are not averse to wearing their heart on their sleeve at gigs, playing covers of tunes by their favourite artists (such as 'Video Killed The Radio Star' by Buggles).
The Feeling have also followed the 'progressive' tradition of the concept album, with Twelve Stops and Home being a concept album about lost and unrequited love. The album starts with a relationship having just broken up, then follows through with the various emotions of the protagonist from hopeless dreamer to turning to drink for comfort, and finally slumping home.

Left this city for a day
You took me southwards on a plane
And showed me Spain or somewhere
But in reality you're not so keen to show me anything
And I thought you liked me
Hey, show some love, you ain't so tough
Someday you're going to realize
(I want you)
To fill my little world right up, right up, right up
Yeah, so what you gonna do
With all this stuff piling up, filling up and taking up
You misunderstand me
All I wanted was some evidence
That you really like me
(You really like me)
Hey, show some love, you ain't so tough
Come fill my little world right up, right up
Someday you're going to realize
(I want you)
To fill my little world right up, right up, right up
Maybe it's all too much
How come we're so messed up
Maybe I'm not in love
Maybe you're just too much
Hey, show some love, you ain't so tough
Come fill my little world right up
Oh
Oh
Yeah
Hey, show some love, you ain't so tough
Come fill my little world right up, right up
Someday you're going to realize
(I want you)
To fill my little world right up, right up
Hey, show some love, you ain't so tough
Come fill my little world right up, right up
Someday you're going to realize
That I'm passing you by
So fill your little world right up, right up, right up
Oh
Come on and show me you ain't so tough
The Feeling's song Fill My Little World is about a person who is hoping for a deeper connection with someone they care about. They want this person to take them on an adventure, but in reality, this person doesn't seem very interested in the idea. The singer expresses their desire for evidence that this person really cares about them, and that they're not just wasting their time trying to build a relationship. They hope that someday this person will realize the depth of their feelings and reciprocate them fully. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the singer urging this person to show their softer side and fill their world with love.
The lyrics of Fill My Little World showcase the complexity of human relationships and the desire we as humans have for deep connections with others. It's easy to fall into the trap of feeling like we're not getting what we want or need from those around us, but at the same time, it can be difficult to express those needs to others. The song also touches on the fear of rejection and the uncertainty that often comes with pursuing a romantic relationship.

I had a dream we went away
I imagined us leaving this city for a day
Left this city for a day
We were away from here for a while
You took me southwards on a plane
You flew me to a southern destination
And showed me Spain or somewhere
You revealed an exotic location
But in reality you're not so keen to show me anything
You don't seem interested in sharing experiences with me
And I thought you liked me
I believed you had affection for me
Hey, show some love, you ain't so tough
Be more affectionate, it's not difficult
Come fill my little world right up, right up
Bring happiness and meaning to my life
Someday you're going to realize
You will eventually understand
(I want you)
(I want you)
To fill my little world right up, right up, right up
To bring joy and fulfillment to my life
Yeah, so what you gonna do
What actions will you take
With all this stuff piling up, filling up and taking up
Amid everything overwhelming me
You misunderstand me
You're not comprehending my feelings
All I wanted was some evidence
I simply desired proof
That you really like me
That you genuinely care for me
Maybe it's all too much
Perhaps everything is overwhelming
How come we're so messed up
Why are we in such a chaotic state
Maybe I'm not in love
Possibly I don't have romantic feelings
Maybe you're just too much
Perchance you're excessively intense
That I'm passing you by
That I'm moving on from you
So fill your little world right up, right up, right up
Bring fulfillment and happiness to your own life
Come on and show me you ain't so tough
Demonstrate that being affectionate is not difficult
