Winter Song
The Head and the Heart Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
We don't know how we feel
We're just prayin' that we're doin' this right
Though that's not the way it seems
Summer gone, now winter's on its way
I will miss the days we had
The days we had
I will miss the days we had
The days we had
Oh, I'll miss the days we had
Loving, leaving, it's too late for this now
Such esteem for each has gone
Has time driven our season away?
'Cause that's the way it seems
In the world of the speech that is new
I'll be back again to stay
Again to stay
I'll be back again to stay
Again to stay
I'll be back again to stay
The Head and the Heart's "Winter Song" is a melancholic tune that speaks about the uncertainty of life and relationships. The song begins with a plea for comfort and hope during a time of confusion. The speaker expresses that they are unsure of how they feel and hope that they are doing things right. They acknowledge the discrepancy between what they feel and what they hope to achieve.
The chorus expresses the longing for the past and the realization that those moments are now gone. It speaks of the transition from summer to winter and how that change brings about the ending of those special moments. The speaker acknowledges that he will miss the days they had but hopes that he will be back again someday to stay.
The second half of the song touches on the idea of love and how it can be too late to fix things once the esteem between two people has gone. The speaker wonders if time has driven their season away and if there is any hope of reconciling after the damage has been done. Despite the doubt, there is a glimmer of hope in the last line, expressing that the speaker will return to stay.
Overall, "Winter Song" is a poignant and reflective song that speaks about the fleeting nature of life and love. It is a reminder to cherish the moments that we have with the people we love and to hold onto the hope that those moments will come again.

The band consists of Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar), Charity Rose Thielen (violin, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (keyboards) and Tyler Williams (drums).
Composed primarily of transplants to the Seattle area, The Head and the Heart write and play songs that speak to the newness of a fresh start, of the ghosts left behind, of moving forward, all brimming with a soulfulness and hope for a better life than the one we've all been sold.
Stylistically, think a folksy Beatles or The Avett Brothers with a little extra oomph. Catchy piano melodies stand side by side with a tight trio of harmonies, and solid minimalist drums, groovin' bass, and plenty of hand percussion and foot stomps make the live show inspiring and really goddamn fun.
After the band self-released its eponymous debut album in June 2010, the emblematic Seattle label Sub Pop re-released the album. For the Sub Pop version, the song “Sounds like Hallelujah” has been re-recorded, live favorite “Rivers and Roads” has been added, and the album has been re-mastered.
The band's second album "Let's Be Still" was released on October 15, 2013.
The band released their third studio album, "Signs of Light", in September 2016.
The band's fourth album, "Living Mirage", was released in May 2019.
Band member Josiah Johnson released his debut solo album, "Every Feeling On a Loop", in September 2020.

Sorry about your loss. Losing a dog might as well be losing a family member. Such a kick in the gut....

This song comes to me 2 weeks after losing my best friend Ivy. It reminds me of the wonderful days we had together running in the yard, playing ball, and just cuddling. She held on as long as she could. I will love you forever.
