I Call Your Name-The Mamas & the Papas
The Mamas & the Papas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I call your name, but you're not there
Was I to blame, for being unfair?
Don't you know I can't sleep at night
Since you've been gone

I never weep at night
I can't go on
Don't you know I can't take it
I don't know who can

I'm not gonna make it
I'm not that kind of man
Don't you know I can't sleep at night
But just the same

I never weep at night
I call your name
Don't you know I can't take it
I don't know who can

I'm not gonna make it
I'm not that kind of man
Don't you know I can't sleep at night, but just the same, yeah

I never weep at night, I call your name (Ahh I call your name)
I never weep at night, I call your name, yeah

I think that Hollywood should have made a movie about Mama Cass's life by now. She deserves a movie, telling all about her life.

@CalJennings

As long as it's good and truthful

@markmussari6397

It's a shame they so rarely sang live on television. Of course their voices were tracked all over the place on their records but it would have been nice to hear them "live" more often.

@lorne6293

There only real full concert is Monterey pop, that's only so long though.

@ryana6701

It sounds like Cass and possibly Denny were singing alongside their studio vocals, which is honestly more leeway than most performers were given on American variety shows. I don’t think John or Michelle were miced up.

@TomElvisSmith

This is my favorite song that the Mamas and the Papas did on the Ed Sullivan show. The beautiful voice of Mama Cass is featured prominently, and of course, there are those fantastic harmonies.

@loosilu

Can't go wrong with that voice singing Lennon-McCartney!

@donaldschultz676

And of course written by Lennon/McCartney. I like there version too.
Elliott's voice was angelic.

@daceliepins9108

Cass Elliot has such a beautiful voice. I shudder at all the stupid, injurious jokes at the expense of her weight :_(

@dadgavaklopera9664

She endured all of that , because she wanted to be an actress 😢🤧
