The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.
Boys Who Rape
The Raveonettes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Boys who rape should all be destroyed
Three to one girl
How can you win
One horrid night
You hope that it's a bad dream
They rip you to shreds
Make you feel useless
You'll never forget
Those fuckers stay in your head
Boys who rape should all be destroyed
Boys who rape should all be destroyed
They rip you to shreds
Make you feel useless
You'll never forget
Those fuckers stay in your head
Boys who rape should all be destroyed
Boys who rape should all be destroyed
Boys who rape should all be destroyed
Boys who rape should all be destroyed
The Raveonettes's song "Boys Who Rape" is a powerful statement against the crime of rape. The lyrics repeat the phrase "Boys who rape should all be destroyed" in a solemn and defiant tone, driving home the message that there is no excuse for such violent, traumatic behavior. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, painting a picture of helplessness and despair in the face of overwhelming odds: "Three to one girl / How can you win / One horrid night / You hope that it's a bad dream."
The rest of the lyrics expand on this theme, describing the physical and emotional toll that rape takes on its victims. The line "They rip you to shreds / Make you feel useless" captures the brutal reality of the experience, as does the repetition of the phrase "Those fuckers stay in your head." The song's uncompromising stance against rape is a powerful statement in support of survivors of sexual assault, and a call to action for listeners to do their part to prevent such atrocities from happening in the future.
Overall, "Boys Who Rape" is a deeply emotional and impactful song that touches on an important topic. It is a reminder of the lasting damage that sexual violence can do, and a plea for justice and compassion for those who have been victimized by it.
