The name, The Raveonettes, is a direct reference to The Ronettes, and Buddy Holly's song Rave On!.
Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

On April 4th, 2011, they released "Raven in the Grave", a nine-track studio album with Vice Records. It's their 5th studio album.
From their site bio:
“I think we have finally hit on something quite important and different for this album,” explains Sune. “This is the first Raveonettes album we've done which doesn't feature the signature Raveonettes surf drumbeat. None of the tunes have any real sunshine to them. It’s all very un-Rave.”
“It has a mood of ethereal defiance” Sharin adds. “It’s dark but not bleak, like the single minded determination caused by crisis that is not quite hope but just as powerful. It’s the perfect winter soundtrack just in time for spring”.

The Raveonettes’ song "Wine" is a dreamy tune that paints a picture of a starry summer night between two lovers who are in love, but also at the brink of falling apart. The lyrics are simple but deep, painting a vivid picture of the couples' emotions. The first verse uses imagery of the stars to show how the couple is together but distant, followed by the second verse that shows they are equally lonely when apart. And in these lonely moments, the singer asks their partner not to self-destruct or do anything rash, but instead suggest killing time with a baseball bat, implying a need to do something violent to let out their frustration. However, this desperation falls short, and the singer breaks out into a cry, lamenting that summer has thrown their love away.
The chorus is emotive and expressive, and it captures the mood of the song perfectly. The line "Summer threw our love away" has a confessional quality about it, where the couple is trying to make sense of the situation they find themselves in - questioning what went wrong while trying to keep the love they once had.
The bridge is a shift to a more upbeat and energetic sound, with themes of danger and the senses heightened. The lyrics talk about a drunk kiss fueled by wine, under a red moon, that represents passion and desire. The lines "A bad wipeout, you beat 'em every time" seem to be about a competitive sport or game, but the double meaning suggests that even when their love falls apart, they still manage to get through it.
