@AC Ricucci Actually, I wasn't being as exacting as you are, as Handel's concerts benefited more than one charity. But the Foundling Hospital benefit concert became an annual event. I was highlighting the fact that it was an annual event. For the benefit of the children at the Foundling Hospital.

The three charities that were to benefit from the 👉very first performance that was in Dublin were prisoners' debt relief, the Mercer's Hospital, and the Charitable Infirmary. The Foundling Hospital benefited for the first time several years later, in 1750.

Also, Messiah is not titled THE Messiah. It's just Messiah.

The version that we have today is from 1754. Although its popularity in London would grow during the 1750's, it wasn't as popular in 1754 as it would later become. It was also revised by Handel during the 1740's. But then, he tended to reformulate certain parts of Messiah in order to accommodate whichever vocalists he happened to be working with.

And it was, in fact, Messiah rather than the Anthem that was performed for the benefit of the Foundling Hospital. "The year 1750 also saw the institution of the annual charity performances of Messiah at London's Foundling Hospital, which continued until Handel's death and beyond.[59] The 1754 performance at the hospital is the first for which full details of the orchestral and vocal forces survive."

From what I've seen of the sources used for that Wiki article, it is a well composed (if you will) one.

Best B.

On my wife and my 1st date when we were 21 this this is the Music that we had on the turntable. Now we're in our sixties in our kitchen making a pie together and it's still the same music that lifts our hearts today.

God bless your family

Sweet! Our first date was to a live performance of Messiah! We are now in our 60's as well, and still love to hear this masterpiece, especially at Christmas time!

This production is my favorite. I love how the music is not rushed (many others are). There is a sense of reverence for God and worship to the Lord throughout. I think this production is majestic and I sense God’s loving presence while listening.
