"From the prairie city of Saskatoon, Canada come the Sheepdogs, 4 young gentlemen who revel in the joy of rock n roll so wholeheartedly, it's downright contagious. Sporting the long-haired looks of their musical forefathers, the lads make the most of their 2 guitars, bass and drums combo. Soulful vocalizations, everybody harmonizing, old-school guitar chops winding, riffing and chiming, and a grooving rhythm section that keeps it all going. Having already cemented their reputation as dynamic performers in their hometown, the Sheepdogs now turn their attention to spreading their affection for rock n roll cross-country. They have spent the last year covering the great white north, playing from Vancouver island to Montreal. They have played festivals, headlined a bill during 2007's Junofest, opened for the likes of Matt Mays and el Torpedo, and performed before thousands at 2006's Saskatoon Centennial Celebration. In January 2007 they released their debut LP Trying to Grow, a collection of guitar-driven originals that recall classic rockers like the Stones, CCR, and the Kinks. The album's title-track was featured in a province-wide campaign in their native Saskatchewan. Early 2008 has already seen the completion of their follow-up album, which mixes elements of southern rock and moody soul with gleeful straight-forward rockers. Once again, the boys are hitting the road, spreading their rock n roll revival to the rest of Canada."

Up In Canada
The Sheepdogs Lyrics

Didn't know what I was searching for
But I up and left my home
As a man, I was born to roam
Saw the land there of my dreams
The mountain, river and streams
Big wheels spinning, talking 'bout my home
Up in Canada, three square meals for the youth
And that's the truth
But we got a ways to go
Well I came to southern town
And I made with settling good
And the folks were good and kind
But they were no friends of mine
I set out on the road alone
With a heart full of northern song
Big wheels turning, headed for my home
Up in Canada, blazing guns for the truth
Way up in Canada, three square meals for the youth
And that's the truth
But we got a ways to go
Up in Canada, blazing guns for the truth
Way up in Canada, three square meals for the youth
And that's the truth
But we got a ways to go
Up in Canada, blazing guns for the truth
Way up in Canada, three square meals for the youth
And that's the truth
Up in Canada, blazing guns for the truth, yeah, yeah, yeah
Up in Canada, oh yeah, that's the truth
And that's the truth
The Sheepdogs's song Up In Canada is about a man who leaves his home and sets out on a journey to find something he is searching for. He comes across a southern town where the people are good but not his friends. He continues on the road alone with his heart full of northern song and big wheels turning, headed back to Canada, the land of his dreams, with its mountains, rivers, and streams.
The lyrics talk about the pride of being Canadian, the good things about Canada being three square meals for the youth and blazing guns for the truth. But also, that Canada has some way to go. It's talking about the journey of striving towards truth and the journey of the country to reach a better state.
The song represents the hope that Canada has a constant potential to become a better place. Canada is a country of immense natural beauty with friendly locals, but as with any society, there is always room for focus, growth, and change. The song is a nod to the fact that the people of Canada must always work towards social justice, equality, and being an inclusive society.
