Thomas Bergersen Lyrics

Please don't sing sad songs for me,
Forget your grief and fears,
For I am in a perfect place
Away from pain and tears

It's far away from hunger and hurt
And want and pride,
I have a place in Heaven
With the Master at my side.

This is one of the most beautiful and emotional songs I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. While listening to it, I imagined the following story, based on the title, A PLACE IN HEAVEN. Please try and listen to it as you read the story in the time frame I suggested:
0:00 – The world darkens, the beginning of the end. I stand helpless, waiting for what must come as a strange instrument’s sound echoes inside and outside of my head.
0:18 – The world comes to an end as the angels begin their beautiful song, calling, calling. Their voices pull on every fibre, every cell – everything knows that it is time. The reckoning has come.
0:45 – A single voice penetrates the angelic song. Through the darkness a light appears, emanating from the winged one from whose lips the heavenly voice rises. He comes.
1:00 – I find myself floating towards the light. Thoughts fade, matter fades, I fade. There is only the light.
1:15 – The song ends as I return to myself, looking around at the greatest hall I could never have imagined. Every living thing is assembled in the golden expanse, every eye turned towards the two empty thrones at the centre and the great doors behind them.
1:31 – The creatures bow, everyone on one knee with heads lowered. The lion, the eagle and man all acknowledge the coming of the true King.
1:45 – The song rises tenfold as the angels are echoed by the creatures. I bow low as the doors open, light coming forth. The purest of light, it causes all shadows to flee the hall instantly. The King and His Son walk through the great doors, the light arising from them in pulsating waves of true magnificence. I lower my head, unable to comprehend their terrible beauty.
2:15 – The song slows; I can only assume it does so because the King and the Prince have been seated on the throne. I bow my head lower, hoping desperately to escape my own unworthiness.
2:22 – The King and His Son do not sit down but rather walk towards me. I can only watch their feet as they stop directly in front of me.
2:38 – My heart flutters desperately as I raise my eyes to meet those of the King. His eyes are adorned with tears; their eternal depths filled with sadness and disappointment. I weep for my sins.
2:45 – The angels sing once more as light penetrates me, filling me, running through me. The light exposes every wrongdoing, every malicious thought, every untruthful word as light would expose the impurities in a diamond. I am naked, but my deeds seem to cover my body like tattered, filthy rags.
3:14 – The Prince kneels, lifting my head. His beautiful eyes fill my own, His smile chasing away my guilt. I somehow recall asking Him to take my place, sometime in the fallen world. With tears of joy He shows me His scarred hands, His face a picture of unconditional love – of love for me.
3:29 The Prince helps me to my feet. He lifts his hands to his head and removes the glorious crown from it, placing it on my own. I look down to find the rags gone, in their place a white robe matching the Princes own.
3:43 The King kisses my cheek with royal grace and with the love of a father. I weep uncontrollably as He leads me forwards towards the great doors. Tears of joy, tears of utter disbelief and tears of love pour from my eyes.
3:58 – The doors open, the great city of light lies beyond, reflecting the light of my King and His Son. By his scars I have a place in Zion. A place in Heaven.

Please don't sing sad songs for me,
Forget your grief and fears,
For I am in a perfect place
Away from pain and tears

It's far away from hunger
And hurt and want and pride,
I have a place in Heaven
With the Master at my side.

My life on earth was very good,
As earthly life can go,
But Paradise is so much more
Than anyone can know.

My heart is filled with happiness
And sweet rejoicing, too.
To walk with God is perfect peace,
A joy forever new.

I saw someone share what they imagine when they hear this song.

For me it's different. After the first time I heard this song, I had a dream.

First thing I saw a magical bird flying and we follow it then we see through the clouds a huge castle then we focus on the window on one of the towers where i saw myself looking out wearing royal clothing. I looked quite lost and nervous.

Then I hear a knock from the doors, someone tells me to get ready but I wasn't so sure for what. Then i get dressed with the most amazing clothing i dont remember details but after that I got out of the room and the ceilings of the halls were so tall.

Then I was lead to doors so huge. it was dark but I could see the light coming through from inside. Then the royal guards open the doors for me and i had to squint because it was so bright inside. Then my vision was clear.

Inside it was very huge! Full of people in extravagant clothing and magical animals. They were all looking at me and smiling. in front of me was a long royal blue carpet that lead straight to two thrones but I could not see who were sitting. But I could see that behind the thrones there was a huge tree that held the castle together. It's branches stretching out to all angles.

Then I walked down the path and everyone kept their eyes on me and gently bowed their heads as greeting. Then I could see the ones sitting on the thrones it was my mom and dad. It warmed my heart a bit as I only grew up with my mom. But there they were, king and queen of this kingdom. The life after death is what it felt like.

Then all my closest friends beside them waiting for me. Then I faced the audience. A crown was placed on my head. And everyone rejoiced as the heir they have been waiting for has finally returned to his rightful place.
