Speaking harmony
Drags you by your hand
He’s a number man
True facts she am
Functioning, practicing
Drags you by your hand
To the hand
Leading you only
To the plan
Unison only
To the hand
To the man
I see
Sitting in the whole
It’s just the same place
You’re all alone
Unison only
To the hand
Leading you only
To the land
Unison only
To the hand
To the hand
To the hand
The lyrics to Ty Segall's song "The Hand" seem to be describing a journey or experience led by someone who is referred to as "the hand." This person is described as "dragging" the singer by their hand and "leading" them to a destination, referred to as "the plan" or "the land." The lyrics also mention "speaking harmony," which could suggest that "the hand" is offering guidance or comfort to the singer. However, there is also a sense of foreboding in the lyrics, especially with the repetition of the phrase "unison only to the hand." This could suggest that the singer is being manipulated or brainwashed, and that their thoughts and actions are now in total alignment with "the hand's" wishes. The final lines of the song also hint at a sense of loneliness or isolation, as the singer realizes that they are now "all alone" in this journey.
Overall, the lyrics to "The Hand" seem to be exploring themes of control, manipulation, and a loss of individuality. The repeated imagery of being dragged or led by "the hand" suggests a vulnerability and a lack of agency on the part of the singer, while the emphasis on unison and harmony could be seen as a warning against blindly following the crowd or the wishes of others.
