Segall began his recording career as a part-time musician in various underground bands in Orange County and the San Francisco Bay Area, before beginning a solo career in 2008. Segall's first solo release was the cassette Horn The Unicorn released on the Wizard Mountain label (later re-released by HBSP-2X on vinyl record). Around the same time, Wizard Mountain also released a split cassette featuring Segall and the band Superstitions entitled Halfnonagon.
In 2012, Segall released three LPs: His solo album, Twins; a collaboration with White Fence titled Hair and Slaughterhouse, an album with the Ty Segall Band.
The Singer

When my arms around
Whistle in the trees
It sits inside the bees?
When my love's around (?)
Sing, sing (louder, louder)
Sing, sing (louder, louder)
Now I feel so down
Suffering on the ground
Some come home me (?)
We won't be found
When my love's around
So sing (louder, louder)
So sing (louder, louder)
The lyrics to Ty Segal's song, The Singer, are cryptic and open to interpretation. The first verse, "I can hear the sound when my arms around, whistle in the trees, it sits inside the bees? When my love's around," may refer to the warmth and peacefulness one feels when in the presence of a loved one, and how even nature seems to harmonize in their presence. The second verse, "Now I feel so down, suffering on the ground, some come home me(?), we won't be found when my love's around," seems to describe a sense of isolation and sadness that comes when that loved one is absent. Even though the singer may be surrounded by others, they still feel alone and disconnected without their partner. The repeated lines "Sing, sing (louder, louder), So sing (louder, louder)" could be a call to uplift oneself or a plea to those around them to help them feel less isolated.
Overall, the song seems to explore the emotional highs and lows that come with love and relationships. It captures the inexplicable feelings of joy and melancholy that we experience when we are in love or missing someone special.

Ty Segall is, by far, the best musical "find" of mine from the pandemic.

he's the man. a lot of rock history in his playing, yet he is sincere and doesn't bite.

The way Ty Segall plays gives people that feeling of just pure unbelief because he really can play like he actually is doing a good job, its not just like eh he's pretty good i'll put him on a playlist, its like god damn this guy is magnificent, he's raw, he's Ty fucking Segall and what a fucking band he gets to play with. Fuzz, the muggers, etc. its all just the shit.
