The Man Man
Ty Segall Lyrics

He said: "Bye-bye, baby, so long"
He went to the waterside
And stuck his foot in and crawled inside
Up the river, to your store
Down your body, he'll make you crawl
Out your mouth, in my ear
He said the special things only I would want to hear
He said: "Ooh, so long"
He said: "Ooh, so long"
He's no stranger man-man
He's no stranger man-man
He's no stranger man-man
He's no stranger man-man
He said: "Ooh, so long"
He said: "Ooh, so long, oh-oh", he goes
The lyrics of Ty Segall's song The Man Man give a mysterious and ominous vibe throughout. The opening line introduces the absence of "your man" who has left and said his goodbyes. The next line adds an extra layer to the mystery as it mentions the man going to the waterside and sticking his foot in, which could possibly be a reference to committing suicide. The following line confirms this as the man has "crawled inside" the water.
The subsequent lines become more sexual in nature as the lyrics talk about the man crawling down the singer's body and speaking into their ear with "special things only I would want to hear". The repetition of "so long" in the chorus adds to the eerie tone of the song, making it feel like a goodbye of finality. The repeated phrase "He's no stranger man-man" gives no clear indication of who it is referring to, but it does suggest that there may be some fear or unknown entity lurking in the story.

Favorite song on the album. I didn't like thinking about Ty's mortality though. Ty Forever!

I don't think anyone likes to fathom the mortality of ego, when the ego in question isn't causing any pain. Lol.
