The two main influences on the band are the Beatles and Black Sabbath, and keyboardist Josh Silver has expressed a love of Pink Floyd--evidence of which can be heard in the atmospherics of his production techniques.
The band arose from the ashes of the band Carnivore and gained popularity with their songs "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" from the Bloody Kisses album. The album was the first in Roadrunner Records' catalog to go both gold and platinum. They have successfully toured with Pantera, Life of Agony, and dozens of other established and up-and-coming bands, as well as taking part in Ozzfest. The band had VHS and DVD documentary releases in addition to their CD releases and contributions to movie soundtracks and compilations.
Steele died of sepsis caused by diverticulitis (initially reported as heart failure) on April 14 2010 at the age of 48.

10. Bloody Kisses (A Death In
Type O Negative Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A rainy winter's day
All her pain she kept inside
Could no longer hide
No cry for help
She killed herself
Both life & love could not be saved
She took them both to the grave
A pair of souls become undone
Where were two now one
divided by this wall of death
I soon will join you yet
With my blood I'll find your love
You found the strength to end you life
As you did so shall I
Oh no
Please don't go
It's like a death in the family
A crimson pool so warm and deep
Lulls me to an endless sleep
Your hand in mine - I will be brave
Take me from this earth
An endless night - this, the end of life
From the dark I feel your lips
And I taste your bloody kiss
Oh no
Please don't go
It's like a death in the family
Don't die on me
Don't die on me
Don't die on me
don't' die
The song "Bloody Kisses (A Death In" by Type O Negative tells the story of two lovers who both succumb to suicide. The song describes the pain and anguish that one lover must have been feeling to take their own life and the other lover's response to this tragedy. The lyrics use graphic imagery of a "crimson pool" and a "bloody kiss" to give a sense of the finality of death.
The first verse sets the stage for the tragedy with imagery of a rainy winter's day and the singer's pain that she kept hidden. The chorus underscores the gravity of the situation with the powerful statement "It's like a death in the family." The second verse describes the other lover's response to the tragedy, and the powerful emotions that lead him or her to take their own life. The end of the song describes the singer's own impending death and desire to join the other lover in death.
The song is a powerful commentary on the devastating effects of suicide and the impact it has on loved ones left behind. It also touches on themes of love, loss, and the inevitability of death. The lyrics are raw and emotive, conveying a sense of deep pain and sorrow.
