The two main influences on the band are the Beatles and Black Sabbath, and keyboardist Josh Silver has expressed a love of Pink Floyd--evidence of which can be heard in the atmospherics of his production techniques.
The band arose from the ashes of the band Carnivore and gained popularity with their songs "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" from the Bloody Kisses album. The album was the first in Roadrunner Records' catalog to go both gold and platinum. They have successfully toured with Pantera, Life of Agony, and dozens of other established and up-and-coming bands, as well as taking part in Ozzfest. The band had VHS and DVD documentary releases in addition to their CD releases and contributions to movie soundtracks and compilations.
Steele died of sepsis caused by diverticulitis (initially reported as heart failure) on April 14 2010 at the age of 48.

Black No. 2
Type O Negative Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She likes the dark
On her milk white neck
The Devil's mark
It's all Hallows Eve
The moon is full
Will she trick or treat
I bet she will
She's got date at midnight
With Nosferatu
Oh baby, Lilly Munster
Ain't got nothing on you
Well when I called her evil
She just laughed
And cast that spell on me
Boo Bitch Craft
Yeah you want to go out 'cause it's raining and blowing
You can't go out 'cause your roots are showing
Dye em black
Black no. 1
Little wolf skin boots
And clove cigarettes
An erotic funeral
For witch she's dressed
Her perfume smells like
Burning leaves
Everyday is Halloween
Loving you was like loving the dead
The lyrics of Type O Negative's song Black No. 1 are an unconventional tribute to a woman who is in love with herself and the darkness. The singer describes her pale white neck with what he believes is the Devil's mark on it, as they encounter each other on Halloween. The woman is dressed as a witch, and she has a date at midnight with Nosferatu, the vampire from the classic 1922 movie by the same name. The singer tries to insult her by calling her evil, but she takes it as a compliment and casts a spell on him using "Boo Bitch Craft."
The song also touches on the idea of appearances vs. reality, with the singer describing the woman's fake wolf skin boots and clove cigarettes, as well as her perfume that smells like burning leaves. He notes that every day is Halloween for her, and by the end of the song, he likened loving her to loving someone who is dead. The lyrics are laced with sarcasm, humor, and an unorthodox romanticism, making this song memorable, controversial, and enduring.

Thank you SO much for sharing all these great rarities with us! After all this time, it's great to just have some "new" material from these bands to enjoy - means a lot!
@lizslizzle
Great remix!
Sorry for the stupid question, but what is the 'Stone Flowers' bootleg and where can it be found?
@DubRecords123
Stone Flowers is an unofficial collection of rare tracks, covers, and fan-made remixes that was released in 1998. You might find second-hand copies on sites like Ebay, but some people have uploaded the tracks to download. I'm uploading them for archival purposes.
@randyhopper192
Interesting fact. Song hits on car system
@pazuzudxcx8423
"Black number 1" means the number of the hair dye, it's the blackest of all so "black number 2" doesn't make much sense 😶 (?)
@DubRecords123
I don't know what the original remixer was thinking with that. Maybe they wanted to make it sound like a "sequel" to 'Black No. 1'?
