The two main influences on the band are the Beatles and Black Sabbath, and keyboardist Josh Silver has expressed a love of Pink Floyd--evidence of which can be heard in the atmospherics of his production techniques.
The band arose from the ashes of the band Carnivore and gained popularity with their songs "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" from the Bloody Kisses album. The album was the first in Roadrunner Records' catalog to go both gold and platinum. They have successfully toured with Pantera, Life of Agony, and dozens of other established and up-and-coming bands, as well as taking part in Ozzfest. The band had VHS and DVD documentary releases in addition to their CD releases and contributions to movie soundtracks and compilations.
Steele died of sepsis caused by diverticulitis (initially reported as heart failure) on April 14 2010 at the age of 48.

Creepy Green Light
Type O Negative Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So unlike any other
Her final words
Don't be afraid
Of the green light
Of the green light (green light)
On muddy ground
Where I must wait
Until she wakes
The soil splits
Greenwood's ground will quake beneath me
And so shall take
Into the earth
To the green light
To the green light
The autumn air
Thickly fills my lungs so sweetly
Reminds me of her smoky breath
With wine and this
Bouquet of maple
And oak leaves
In death or life
We'll always be
I find myself drawn to her shadow domain
This moonlit night
Late October's swirling fog gloom
And as promised
My love did rise
From the green light
Type O Negative's song "Creepy Green Light" is a hauntingly poignant tale about unbreakable love and the promise of its fulfilment. The song starts by introducing an eerie atmosphere that is created by a Halloween-like setting that is unlike any other. The first verse follows with the final words of a lover who is ready to make a return, but the singer is told not to be afraid of the green light. The singer is so drawn to the lover that he is lying drunk on her grave, waiting for her to wake. As she starts to rise, the ground beneath the singer begins to quake, and they sink into the earth to the green light.
The second verse of the song focuses on the autumn air that the singer breathes in, vividly described as sweet and filled with the smoky breath of the lover. The singer finds himself drawn to the shadow domain of the lover and is ready to be reunited with this eternal bond. The song ends on a haunting note as the promise of the lover's rise is finally fulfilled, and she rises from the green light.

So true.
Even if metal isn't a person's cup of tea,
you have to respect and appreciate his vast musical vision.
It is on a truly Beatles-like level (which i know would be the ultimate comment for him, and his self deprecating humor would instantly dismiss).
But TON songs are like Bob Seger songs; they are like mini movies because the emotion of the music and narrative of the lyrics synergise to give you a synaesthesia experience.
HAIL AND FAIRWELL TO TYPE O NEGATIVE

+Bradford Thornton Good call.
Pete was always such a sweet, patient gentleman to his fans.
When i saw him in Kingston, PA,
(smallish venue, seemed like a converted roller rink)
he came out back and didn't go back in until EVERYONE that wanted autographs and pictures got them.
We were all hanging out for well over 90 minutes.
Josh was cool too, though he seemed way more introverted, like a dead tree wallflower.
One of a kind band.
👍❤🇺🇸😎

Anyone else having almost Close Encounters Of The Third Kind-like constant obsessions with this and other later-era Type O Negative masterpieces like this?
Usually when i get this, someone in the band died or a deceased person's birthday is near.
....must remember to investigate further.....

It starts with B minor, gracefully gliding to C Major & A Sharp Major Seven, which makes this song a little "spooky."
Peter Steele, lead singer and bass player of the band, tells the story of a heartbroken boyfriend, grieving about his late girlfriend, and by doing that, decides to get drunk sitting on her grave, back against the tombstone... waiting for her to come back to him from the dead.
It was stated that the original song title was Spooky Green Light, but after giving it some thought, Creepy Green Light was the breakthrough and had a better ring to it.
History shares the significance or meaning of the so-called GREEN LIGHT. It goes way back, around the Celtic Age. At death's door, Warriors would hallucinate or witness a certain green light, holding on, begging to stay among the living, but shortly after... perish, and then follow the bright white light towards the afterlife. The color green, it's a reference of the dead trying to crawl back to the world of the living, but not being themselves whole (like the movie Pet Semetary), not a 100%; suffers an alteration or change. Like a faulty copy, surfacing back to the realm of the living BUT decayed and rotting away; incomplete. This said... that's why Halloween ( SAMHAIN - Celtic term) brings the scent of Fall and Autumn; the thin layer or curtain that divides the two realms (Living & Dead) shatters, manifesting a portal or doorway to crossover.
Giving an opportunity for the dead to share a moment with loved ones (family, friends, spouse, etc...).
It's affiliated with COSMOGONY , and The Green Deity/God " CERNUNNOS " (The Majestic Buck/The Horned One) worshiped by The Druids.
WORLD COMING DOWN is the "darkest" album by *Type O Negative* and contains 3 "soundscape" tracks. Named after internal
organs:
" Sinus " - The Abuse of Cocaine
" Liver " - Alcoholism
" Lung " - Nicotine... Smoking
The three main problems of the band members. Steele , suffered from being bipolar; this 6 ft 8 "gentle" giant had a
presence every time he stepped out on stage. Pure Gothic Metal-Rock.
