They are editable.

.rmi is nothing else than a .mid stuffed into a .wav file (only M$ knows the reason for that and almost nobody knows that .wav is a container that can contain non-PCM audio like this.).

But your program (and many others) doesn't like them.
You have these options:
1. Rename to .wav and try again. (unlikely that this works, because almost all programs assume: .wav=lossless PCM. If it works: The programmers have done their job right.)
2. Convert it with a tool that can read .rmi and write .mid.
3. If you fear a lossy conversion, do it manually: Open it in a hex editor of your choice, delete the RIFF header(that is the small part of a few bytes in the beginning of the file, before "MThd". If you did it right, the file starts with "MThd" now.) and save the result as .mid file. Then import that into your program to edit. :)
If it still doesn't work, you deleted too few or too much or the file has an additional RIFF metadata block at the end (then remove that too, but it is very unlikely that it is there unless someone ran it through a metatag editor in the past that misdetected it as pcm wav file).

I remembered doing this on my first computer back in 1997/98:
1) Open this particular midi song and click pause.
2) Open the Screensaver. Look for the one with either the maze or the pipe moving random.
3) Play the midi song and straight away preview the screen saver in full.

That.. was my first "electronic" entertainment.

Well that's true since Windows 2000 is especially based on Windows NT (significantly). I will be sure to add that directory to the descriptions of my RMI YouTube uploads very soon, so thanks very much for the reminder that it's different on Windows 2000!

@CEO100able Yes, they are pretty much identical. The beginning and ends of the song sound close to the same. There is also a part at around 1:42 that sounds almost identical except it's higher one octave
