The duo released the "Choke" EP on Bella Union, the label run by Guthrie and former Cocteau mate Simon Raymonde late 2000. Their highly-acclaimed debut album "Roulette" followed in 2001 on Instinct. A singles collection, "Casino", followed in early 2002 (Instinct). "Russian Doll", their official sophomore album was released in 2004 on Bella Union and represents a great artistic leap. Guthrie and De Mare have honed their song-writing partnership to create a flawless collection of sublime pop moments, ranging from desolate torch songs through to hypnotic summer lullabies.
While continuing his work with Violet Indiana, Robin Guthrie remains active on many fronts. 2003 saw the release of Imperial, his debut solo album, which was both a critical and commercial success. More recently he has been collaborating with Ulrich Schnauss and also Harold Budd, with whom he is writing the soundtrack to the new Gregg Araki film, Mysterious Skin. He has also created a short animated film, Lumiere, which he has performed as an interactive musical piece at various multi-media festivals across Europe.
According to Robin Guthrie's weblog, the duo have been in the studio working on new material.

Tainted dreams, with ill lit walls
The life you dreamt, but didn't mean
They sung your praise, while they took it all
They watched you rise, and helped you to fall
They left you for dead with no breathe at all
And still keep believing that no one's deceiving
And that they care about you
There's got to be more to you
I can see you being see through
But please tell me there's more to you
Surely there's more to you
Fake the scene you hang around
They don't care if your there
Or what's inside you
Air kissing your cheeks, while staring behind you
How can they use, and keep on using you
Pretending to care, but really despise you
A life you'll regret
Trapped in a world your blas?nd blind to
And they don't care about you
There's got to be more to you
I can see you being see through
But please tell me there's more to you
Surely there's more to you
The lyrics to "Air Kissing" by Violet Indiana paint a picture of a person who has been taken advantage of and used by others. The first verse describes a person who has been betrayed by those they trusted, and whose dreams were tainted by those people's actions. The lyrics suggest that this person was praised by those around them but ultimately fell from grace, and no one came to their aid when they were on the brink of destruction.
The second verse speaks about the way that the person has been made to feel insignificant by those around them. They are made to feel like a lesser being, someone who is only there to be used by others. The lyrics describe how those around them pretend to care, but their true feelings are revealed through their actions. The person is trapped in a life that they will one day regret, and they are blind to the fact that the people around them do not care about them.
Overall, the lyrics to "Air Kissing" are a commentary on the way that people are used and abused by those around them. The song encourages listeners to realize that there is more to them than what others may see on the surface, and to seek out true connections with people who value them for who they are.
