Zager & Evans are only known for their immensely popular song In the Year 2525 (Exordium And Terminus), written by Rick Evans. It hit number one on the UK chart in 1969. Coincidentally, it was number one on 20 July 1969 in USA, the date of the first manned moon landing by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, and spent six weeks on the Billboard Top 40. It was nominated for a special Hugo Award that same year.
The band signed with RCA records, who claimed they were "The Next Big Thing", but follow-up singles, such as "Mr. Turnkey", went unnoticed by the public.
I Remember Heide
Zager & Evans Lyrics

We'll sigh goodbye to all we ever had
Alone where we have walked together
I'll remember April and be glad
I'll be content you loved me once in April
Your lips were warm and love and spring were new
I'm not afraid of autumn and her sorrow
The fire will dwindle into glowing ashes
For flames live such a little while
I won't forget but I won't be lonely
I'll remember April and smile
In these lyrics, the singer is reminiscing about a past love that occurred in the month of April. The day is beautiful, but the impending evening foreshadows the end of their relationship. The singer acknowledges that they will have to say goodbye to all the memories they have shared together, but they will always cherish the time they spent together. The singer is comforted by the fact that they were loved during the springtime when everything was new and fresh. They're not worried about the sadness that comes with autumn because they will always remember their love in April.
The song has a melancholic yet bittersweet tone that is fitting for a song about remembering a past love. The lyrics focus on the memories the singer has shared with their lover and how they will always be cherished, despite the eventual end of their relationship. The mention of the fire burning out symbolizes the end of their love, but the singer will always smile when they remember the good times they shared. Overall, the lyrics capture a feeling of nostalgia and a longing for a past love.
